Downloads

Hey... Did you ceased with the practice to have link of movies, that can be downloaded and watched later?!

I do not allways have fast connection available, so this will be big dissapointment...

I am also missing this. Although I have a resonable fast connection and the videos works on a couple of computers at home, they won't play well on the one I am using most. This one is old, but should not be that outdateted.

Downloaded videos, like the bonusfeatures from the last MRH, play well on this one using the VLC

Yeah.. I miss the download too

I notice that the movies are hosted through blip now too..

Problem I have is I watch on my couch.. so I usually would download the clips into my DVR software so I can watch them using the remote while I hold the baby.

Its also tough because they are in parts (thinking the digitrax one..).. so if I do bring up the browser to watch I have to get up and twiddle it every 10-15 min waking up the baby.

Okay, downloadables are tricky

Okay, making the video available from blip in downloadble form is tricky - we tend to get lots of support emails on downloadable videos so if we did downloadable at all, we were thinking of charging for them because they're such a hassle.

However, blip does provide a URL to the video - try the BLMA video downloadable version and let us know how it works. If you can download and play it easily then we'll consider offering at least the vendor/sponsor interviews as downloadables for free.

The other problem with downloadable is it puts the video out in the wild and disconnects it from our web site. We need people to visit our web site so they see the clickable sponsor logo buttons, since they're paying the freight. Strictly speaking, unless we start loading the video up with ads, downloadable videos should be paid for somehow - and without ads that would mean YOU would pay for them, which kind of goes against our free policy.

Some things just aren't simple, are they?

Play list

I understand your desire to hold onto content.

Plays great in the Adobe Media Player.

One way around some of my angst with non-downloadable would be for related episodes to come up in some kind of playlist. If I could track through all the Digitrax videos, for instance, without having to get up from the couch (see notes on sleeping baby) then I would be reasonably content..

Chris

btw- I would be willing to consider a subscription for a steady diet of nice videos of clinics and stuff.. I love model railroad clinics and think that would be well worth some scratch. Not that I have much scratch, so maybe its theoretical :)

The download worked better for me

Joe,

I understand your thougths and concerns about the videos

The other problem with downloadable is it puts the video out in the wild and disconnects it from our web site. We need people to visit our web site so they see the clickable sponsor logo buttons, since they're paying the freight.

The link you provided worked fine for me. I first tried "save as" and my Firefox 3.5.1 opened the video in a new tab. It played fluid. By copying the link and paste it into VLC it worked perfect.

Pity the normal way don't work well on my computer, but I can always use my wife's or son's computers when those  are available. Maybe I even can sort out the problems with some reinstallation of software.

Anyway this is not a big deal for me. Thank  to all of you at the MRH staff for sharing this with us!!!

Use real player

I don't know if this works on a PC, but on my Mac I have Realplayer download installed. I start a video, then pause it wait for it to fully download, or go to the next step where it will be downloaded. Open the download window, click on the downloader icon, from here you click download next to the video you want and it is placed in the Realplayer download file. Then you can  watch it at any time in Realplayer.

Also I did the download of the BLMA video worked with no problems.

Mike Ruby

downloading

I start a video, then pause it wait for it to fully download,

Thank you, for reminding me of that, Mike, I had forgotten that. It worked better, but still the videos don't play fluid on my own computer, the Digitrax from N-scale in Portland is actually the worst

So I am wondering if this is either something with XP as I have tried the videos on a couple of laptops with Vista where they work fine.

The XP pcs are of course older, but not so bad.Hmm

But as I said, this is no big deal for me as my wife just came home with her laptop. I can occupy that laptop a little each day.....

Reinstalling Firefox

Due to other problems I deleted Firefox and did a new installation.

It seems to me that the videos work better now.

Just for your information as I am not a geek in this area.
