BC Rail Dawson Creek Sub - (A brief) Update 3
Hello All,
As I said earlier, I'd post an update of what I got done on the actual layout this weekend. I got all the wiring done for the first module of Dawson Creek and put some ballast down. I also put up fascia board along the module and installed the first of the Digitrax throttle hookup panels (conveniently salvaged from my old layout). The silos are pretty much in their final spot although a couple of them still need to be weathered. Hopefully I can finish up ballasting and maybe start on some other scenery the next time I'm home.
BC Rail Dawson Creek Sub - Update 2
I'm slowly making progress on structures and equipment for my HO scale BC Rail layout modelling the Dawson Creek sub in September, 1987. First of all, I made some changes to the track plan a few weeks ago, lengthening the yard at Dawson Creek. This shortens the staging area and the siding at Sundance a bit, but this shouldn't be an issue considering Sundance is only used to hold short consists of MOW equipment. Having a longer yard at Dawson Creek will significantly improve operating the layout.
Middle School Model Railroad: a blunder, but is it a FATAL blunder?
I know better, but it looks like I’m going to do it anyway: hidden staging.
Middle School Model Railroad: Scale Speed
Yesterday I asked students to first estimate, then calculate, the speed in miles per hour that this train was traveling with respect to the HO scale figure walking along the tracks (this "scene" runs along the whiteboard on the north wall of the classroom):

Personal journey - Nov 11 update
I got my SoundPro to play VSD files. ... :-)
I located VSD files for Class64, Class94, EMD_645_Turbo, EMD_NW2, GE_7FDL and Generic_Steam
Next, I am going to see whether I can add my own sounds to build a custom VSD file.
Questions and Answers during my model railroad journey
During my journey, I had some questions for which I found my answers. I am jotting those here so it can jog my memory and may also help others. I plan to edit this as I move along my journey
Scale
-Q - Should I choose HO or N? N scale is small and you may have difficulties
-A - It was not that difficult working with N, as far as placing a loco on a track and control with a throttle. For me, as I was space constrained, it helped me get more track in the same square foot of space

A Naked Corner Fixed
I had an empty corner that didn't really add much to the layout scene. Here is what I did to fix it.

As my blog passed the year mark, I decided that it would be a good idea to create an index of my posts by topic for easy reference.
My personal journey - Nov 7 update
Nov 7 - NCE Powercab
Got my NCE Powercab and am able to control the locos on my HO layout with the Powercab. yaay !!!
Next step, control using JMRI and the USB adaptor through the Powercab. This will open a lot of possibilities.
