Layout in progress

Hello all, I'm brand new to the site and figured I would share a little on my layout.  Here are a few pictures so far:Edited box cars.JPG

BC&SJ Historical Photo

I was digging around and found this photo of the first Bear Creek & South Jackson layout. This shot from sometime in 1999 shows downtown in South Jackson, the depot (perched above the alternate lap's tunnel - must've made for some interesting subterrainean sensations when a train was running below!) and a bit of the control panel. The two throttles perched atop the control panel give evidence of a shift from cab-control to Digitrax DCC (I just replaced one of the two regular cabs with the Digitrax command station/booster).

Naming my Layout Part II

I've been thinking about all the controversy about the name I chose for my layout. Some were of the that Bay Ridge and New Haven was to unknown for anyone from out side of Brooklyn or possibly even NYC to recognize. So what to do especially given the thought that in the real world railroad names would be important in raising the financining to build or keep operating the line. So here are some posibilities I came up with and some of th4e objections that came to mind against selecting that particular alternative.

New York and Atlantic

O Scale 2 Rail beginnings

After being in HO and N scale model railroad for nearly 40 years (off and on of course since I was 5) I decided to go a different route. Part of this decision was based on my worsening eye sight.  The other part was that I am not steady with the fingers any more and it was becoming extremely difficult in attaching parts and details to N scale and HO scale equipment.

Naming my layout and other stuff

Alto has been happening lately so I could probably write a book. I know no one wants to read one so I'll try to keep this brief.

First, I've come up with a name for my railroad:

Bay Ridge and New Haven

I know its not very original but it does decribe the points it runs between which are Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, in New York City and New Haven in Connecticut. I have yet to select some other things like colors, logo and the operating scheme but there is plenty of time for that right now.

Hello!

I just signed up and would like to start by saying that this is something I believe in - a quality webzine with an interactive website is a good thing! I am really looking forward to this.

A few notes about me: I'm an architect, I'm norwegian, and live in Trondheim, Norway.

Family Vacation & Rail Fanning Too!

Last year I donated a dollar a day to the local PBS television station WUNC-TV here in the Raleigh/Durham area and as a part of the drive I got some free gifts from the Scenic Railroads television show as well as 4 free tickets to ride on the excursion train at the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad (GSMRR) in Bryson City, NC. So in September we planned a trip to the Smoky's for the Thanksgiving Holidays. We arrived at the GSMRR Friday morning around 8:45am in preparation for our 10:30am departure.

Scenery Continues..

I have continued work on my scenery. The masking tape has been applied over the cardboard webbing and plaster has been applied over a small portion.
