Building an Island Model Works South Shore/NICTD Coach + Dunes Junction Blog Back From Hiatus
The Up Dunes Junction blog is back to regular posts after an extended hiatus caused by work and real life. Some downtime after a breakneck run of travel and other excitement have given me a chance to re-start modeling projects and share my railroad-related thoughts via the blog.
Progress on My Reading Layout
Well, it’s been about 8 months since my last update. I’ve been too busy working on the layout, and just now getting around to updating my blog.
Cleveland 2014 - Sunday, Day 1
Okay, it's almost 10:30pm (2230hrs) (Eastern) here in Cleveland, and I've been on the go since 2am Pacific. I'm starting to see things.... fireworks, actually - one of the local towns to my hotel is setting off quite the show right now.
Okay - I'm going to start with a positive: This is an incredibly nice facility and we are practically it's inaugural convention, from what I've been told.
Turning the page in my book of life
Apologies up front about this rambling commentary......
I've started to look at my life as a book with different chapters. As an example, I used to be into cars (had a 32' Plymouth streetrod), then into camping (had a popup camper) then into boating (had a 17 ft run-about).....you get the idea.
BQR Status Update
Been too long since I had a chance to work on the railroad. But the garden is in and doing reasonably well. And the front and side decks have new deck boards -- why would anyone put decking down with ardox screw nails???
Looking for Station Kit
I'm looking for a kit similar to the smaller front building in the following images. Or something I could possibly bash to look like it. The station was originally run by the United Fruit Company and then transferred to the Northern Railway in Costa Rica. Any tips would be appreciated.
Another view and in color.
Some thoughts on Crafting and why I like it!
What is it about making something that is so intriguing? Is it worth spending more time to make something yourself?
Join me as I discuss crafting/scratchbuilding here. Also, feel free to chime in here or on my blog- what is it about scratch building that appeals to you, or scares you away?
Single Stall Engine House Part 8
Well I'm still awaiting more roofing material to finish the main roof off. So for now I've mounted hinges on the doors and put them in place as you'll see in the following images.
I decided to use after market hinges as the ones in the kit are peel and stick and I wanted something a little more realistic with a working hinge. So I came across campbell scale models strap hinges and ordered a them.
Taking some time for Railfanning
http://joshuadewolfe.wordpress.com/2014/07/05/taking-the-time-for-sightseeing/
If you are ever in the area, I would recommend checking out Point of Rocks, Md. I have seen many a model of it, and have often drove by, but finally, on a trip today, took some time to visit with my family. Enjoy the pictures!
