Cleveland 2014 - Saturday, Day 2 of the National Train Show - TCS Interview

Someone asked about what was new in the area of DCC sound. We're going to have a first look of the SoundTraxx Soundcar system coming up in a future issue, and I was able to interview Norm Stenzel of TCS regarding their upcoming (now in Beta) WOW Diesel sound decoder -

Cleveland 2014 - Saturday, Day 7/National Train Show Day 2 - Some more new stuff, and a lot of layouts....

It's just after 1pm and I've taken 667 photos today.... my shutter finger is tired.

The show appears to be going well - Fast Tracks says that they are setting records in sales. Today my goal was to get as many of the modular layouts committed to electrons as I could. I think I succeeded.

So... Welcome back to Cleveland.

Bit by Bit, Board by Board

We all have those big projects that stare forebodingly at us. You know the ones we put off, etc. Sometimes, they aren't as big as we thought, and we just need to tackle it one bit at a time.

I have been starting on structures for my layout and it is slow going, but it has been going well.

Single Stall Engine House Part 9

Been a busy week, but squeezed in some time today to work on the Engine House.

Received my roofing material last week and trimmed to size today and also installed the sky lights today.

The material comes in long strips so had to trim down to 4' X 8' sheets. they come 10' wide by 57' long.

I save the left over bits to use on the roof cap.

Cleveland 2014 - Friday, Day 1 of the National Train Show

The day has arrived! We're all set up at the National Train Show in the New Cleveland Convention Center (come see us - we're front and center at the show).

There are  lot of new products here at the show, including some which were just announced today. So, in no order other than the one in which I was able to grab them for photography, here are several of the new items. This is not an exhaustive list by any means - I still need to go by Walthers, for instance.

LK&O Railroad Blog on MRH

I noticed the index that JL&T Jason created for his blog here on MRH and I thought I would do the same. It's a nifty idea.

My blog entries on MRH are a small subset of a much more detailed blog hosted at http://www.lkorailroad.com. So if you want the full scoop or if you can't sleep and warm milk isn't doing the trick then please visit my site.

From newest to oldest:

Cleveland 2014 - Tuesday, Day 3 - Contest Room Photos, an Operating Roadshow, and a surprise guest...

336 photos today - most of them from the contest room. Yesterday I'd been worried about the low number of models being submitted for judging, today they broke the Sacramento record for most models submitted. I've got a long ways to go to get them all photographed. Photos will be in the comments.

I left the convention early today to go pick up Joe Fugate and Don Hanley from the airport, and Les Halmos and his friend Jean-Francois rolled in from Quebec last night.

Thank you

I just thought about the wonderful job many folks do in their modeling efforts as well as their Blogging efforts as well.

Cleveland 2014 - Monday, Day 2 - addendum

Well, I'm still awake, and that YouTube video is about to finish uploading...

I've attached the Covered Hopper clinic handout to this post - you'll be missing Randy's excellent commentary and the question and answer session that took place during the clinic, but I hope you'll find the slide deck informative on it's own.

The video is done uploading, but it's still processing, but it should show up below when it's done with that. Join me on a bumpy tour of the Operations Roadshow modular layout:

Cleveland 2014 - Monday, Day 2

Day 2 found me awake at 5:30am local - which is about 2:30am at home. Still, I was awake, so I spent my extra morning time (my alarm went off promptly at 6:30) getting my gear ready for the convention... as it ended up, I didn't take enough. The contest and display models started coming in today and even though the room is well enough lit for normal purposes, my camera is not normal purposes. Tomorrow I take the flash and tripod with me.
