Touristy sign idea for Stonehammer

I'm thinking of making a sign that can be seen across the tracks from the depot identifying Stonehammer, The sign is a big sheet of rock. I'm trying to figure out if I can get white lettering on it somehow; decal? dry transfer decal? Might even print something from my printer, but haven't figured out how to make white lettering on a black background.

What causes an engine frame to disintegrate?

I have now come across this issue of a disintegrating frame on a second engine. It happened once before on an Atlas HO RS-3 that I had bought new from a hobby shop and stored away. Storage being in an air-conditioned room in a white office storage box. Now I have pulled out an older Proto 2000 GP38-2 from another storage box because it looked misshapen as I was looking through the storage box for something else. Sure enough the metal frame crumbled as I tried to remove the screws to get off the shell.

Faded look.

I recently purchased these two cars. The one of the left looks much like a car I saw in nineteen fifties footage without a maple leaf, but its paint was faded and numbers and letters a tad worn.

Can anyone direct me to a link or article on how to create the faded look on a steel box car?

Ontario South Central - on the move

The principle of the idea is how to fit my proto/freelance switching layout in a space that could seem be inconceivable. Lance Mindheim has great articles in MR and on his website how to do so with much insight.

But for me, it's problematic. I am a Sound Engineer looking for a place in Toronto, Canada. One of the most burgeuning Real Estate places on the planet. You are lucky to buy a home yet rent a place.

Sectional layout in layout design software?

In my latest MRH blog thread here, I discuss my desire to design my new layout using sections I would keep intact if I move again and then other sections to connect them that I could trash and build differently to connect the saved sections to fit a different room configuration.

What glue won't stick to a styrene jig?

I'm relative new to scratch building and started an Engine shed. I made a styrene jig for the wood frame and then it dawned on me that the glue I have will bond the wood to the styrene.

Do you coat the styrene with "Pam" or something?

Is there a glue that bonds wood and not styrene?

I'm in over my head and this is only the first day.  :(

Sorry, no blog, web site or photos. All I have is a "flip phone" and a desk top.

Old style phones

The time is fast approaching to begin minimal operations on my layout.  But before I can do that I need a way of communicating between the dispatcher and the yard operators and cabin (tower) operators and such.

This means I need a telephone system,  As such I have done a bit of research on the net and the info is hard to find, and tends to disagree with each other.  And finding the actual hardware seams even harder.  That being said any advice would be a help.
