Modeling general discussion

Early piggy back details
Hey guys
Just joined today - I figure anything Joe is involved in will be informative and fun. I'm trying to recreate early 1950s West Virginia in HO in about 1700 square feet. The layout is freelanced but loosely based on the Rowelsberg/M&K junction helper district on the B&O. I'm looking for information on early piggyback operations in general and B&O piggyback in particular. Specifically loading ramp sizes including dimensions of timber used, trailers used and pictures of flatcar modifications etc.

Houston, we have a problem.........(blip)
Hi all,
this week I received my Digitrax PR3, along with an sd24 (Atlas Gold series) and the latest Kato GE c44-9w (both UP's) so, yep it was kinda X-mass when I came home, specially with the PR3.
New Workbench
Building a workbench using 3/4" MDF and 3/16" Tempered Hardboard on top.
I recently read in Model Railroader article that the author used exactly what I'm using for the top material. However he claims he used 3 coats of a marine epoxy varnish. Supposed to be solvent proof, etc. The folks at HD and Leowes don't know anything about this stuff. The local paint store has a pourable two part epoxy???
What do you guys use for a durable bench top finish.
Any suggestions would be welcome and appreciated.

Software idea
I was toying with an idea last night. Originally I planned to use car cards, or something to the effect, to know when my units need to some in for a 92 day inspection (and I plan to actually inspect them for damage).
I'm wondering if there's someone out there with Visual Basic skills, that could maybe make a program to do this for you? What I'm thinking is needed:
-92 (or other settings depending on what you want I guess) day cycle
-10 day early warning, Date Due "pop-up", 10 day late (shut down and DIT return..)
Hello everyone
Hi guys and Gals - - I'm Bill Flood, a former Milwaukee Road leverman of many, many years ago. I've been an HO model railroader for -- good gosh, I guess 60 years, or more. I've had several layouts, and I love kitbashing. I model the MILW, of course, and several other connecting roads like the C&NW, Soo, Monon, etc. We live in Algonquin, IL, and my latest layout is still under construction.
More later .....

Cleaning G inside track
I've been asked by a local book store that has a G gage running on the wall, 6 feet up, to fix their train. The equipment is fine, the tracks are dirty, dirty. What's faster way to clean G gage track with out having to use Bright Boy. It's about 120 feet of run. I don't look forward to moving the ladder every 4 feet.

Greetings from Arkansas
Good day everyone,
I thought I would jump in and say hello. My name is Michael, and I grew up and live in Jacksonville, Arkansas just north east of Little Rock. I have been in the model railroad hobby for just a short time (about 6 years now), but have learned a lot from friends and online people in the hobby.
