Sound decoder with accelerometer

Does anyone know of a sound decoder that uses an accelerometer to control the sounds of a diesel locomotive?

The accelerometer should be able to trigger wheel squeal by detecting divergence, acceleration and deceleration sounds, as well as ascent and descent sounds.

If possible the sensitivity should detect track bumps and possibly coupler collisions.

Thanks for any response.

best compressor for an airbrush

I am looking to replace my noisy air compressor for my airbrush. I thought I would ask for some advice.

I am looking for a quiet compressor, one with a tank. My budget is around $100.

Ion generator

I see a lot of ion generators on ebay. are these the kind I would use to make a static grass applicator?

Thanks

What is this apparatus?

Can someone please tell me what this vertical apparatus is to the left of the grab irons?

I noticed in prototype photos, that it doesn't appear on these drop mill gondolas in the 1950s as seen in this B&W photo:

Keith Thompson has passed away

I am sad to report that long time friend of Model Railroaders everywhere, Keith Thompson, passed away on Monday.

Lionel Strang has posted a touching note on his facebook page.

Keith was a great influence to my participation in the Model Railroad community, not only through his writing, but also his encouragement as I worked on several projects for Model Railroader in the early 90's.

Keith will be missed.

Tripod mount for my iPhone for better video

I noticed how shaky my recent video was of the train run by so I decided to get a tripod mount for my iPhone 4S.  This little item set me back $13.00 and I really like it.  Here's a picture of it:
