Modeling general discussion

What is this tank for?
This is part of Weyerhaeuser in Washington state. In the background is a tilted gas tank. I've never seen this before and wondered why you would need to do this. Any ideas? Thanks.

John Armstrong's Given and Druthers
I'm writing a piece on layout planning and I am discussing John Armstrong's "Given and Druthers" but before I proceed much further I want to ensure it was John who actually came up with the term. I am quite familiar with what Given and Druthers is I just want to source the idea accurately.

looking for source of acrylic for laser cutting models
I spent last weekend at the Amherst model railroad show. I was trying to get some inspiration for modeling ideas. I came across some examples done in laser cut acrylic. Some examples are shown. I am trying to locate a source of acrylic for modeling. I've tired the Google route but since I don't know exactly what I'm looking for I appear to be a stranger in a strange land. The only acrylics I have found are 1/8" or thicker translucents like Plexiglas.
Does anyone know of a source of acrylics for modeling, and the product name?

Is there a set of "Best Practices" when it pertains to studying a particular railroad industry?
Hello All,

Big loads
The Port of Catoosa just outside Tulsa is a large industrial park with loads of big industries building loads and loads of big loads!
I heard there was a couple of big loads there waiting to be moved so I went out this morning an the way home from work and shot these pix.
Picked up a Union Pacific General at the Amherst Model Railroad Show this Weekend
Went to the Big E railroad show in West Springfield, MA this past weekend. Great show and lots of people. I'm mostly interested in O Gauge Generals and was lucky enough to find another to add to my small collection. This was a Lionel Union Pacific. If you'd like to take a look, you can see it running around the upper layer of my Southwest Tombstone layout in the video here.

On the subject of Master Model Railroaders..........
...............I don't agree with the whole concept as it is set out by the NMRA. I think many of us are Master Model Railroaders in the real sense of the term. I can only speak for myself, so here goes, my list of skills learned while being a model railroader over the years.
1. wood working and carpentry-bench work.
2. electrical-layout and room wiring
3. electronic-install decoders, LEDs, speakers, frog juicers and district boosters
4. hand lay track, build turnouts
Transfer yard
I am creating a mythical secondary yard in the Chilliwack Valley which will be taking the strain off of yards in the Vancouver area (BC). The theory is that many cars and containers that are being sent to Vancouver, local only, can be better served in a secondary yard just outside of Vancouver.
Weekly Photo Fun - January 29th to February 4th, 2016
Great work everyone last week! Time to start of this week's photo thread!
As always, we get as much out of your in-process photos as we do the highly polished "all done" shots!

Wye or regular turnout?
This is the former SP&S. Is this a wye or a regular turnout?
It looks like it was former double track, with a connection made to the remaining track and then a jog around a moved signal. Just guessing on all this.
Thanks.
