Modeling general discussion

The perfect layout!
Last night I saw the PERFECT layout! It had everything - perfect design, perfect track work, perfect scenery, perfect running. The layout room was perfect - the size of the layout in relation to the room, the isle width, the backdrop, the lighting, the combination of running stock - type and colors, and the sound...OH the sound! When I walked into the layout room I was transformed from an old worn out man to a 10 year old kid standing by the L&N double mainline tracks that ran behind my boyhood home in St Matthews, KY.

Armchair modelers
I'm going to make a confession here: When I see some negative comments that are hurtful posted here I click on the poster's name and checkout what they have been doing with their blog and postings on MRH. I'm not surprised to find that many (no exact percentage) don't initiate many (any?) threads but only comment on others postings. Some don't have any postings about their layouts or there are only postings on what they intend to do in the future.

Ballasting - what fun!
Besides building my structure I've been ballasting track on my layout - a little at a time. Why a little at a time?

A quick inventory of my structures
Model Railroad Names & Heralds
Is there a list or page out on the web that has a "comprehensive" list of model railroad names. I see some great naming of model pikes. It goes along with my interest in heralds. I have dabbled in a few concepts, like the KCN - I made one with the CGW "Lucky Strike" circle & KCS lettering and one with the KCS "stop sign" with Northern substituted for Southern. I also came up with a Con-ROCK "bankruptcy R & ConRail C mixed logo. I wondered if there others out there, too.
Walthers surge Bin
I had such a problem putting the Walthers surge bin. The part that gave me the most trouble was attaching the truss to the i-beams and gluing it to the base, I could not get it lined up for anything. I'm not new to this and was going to use the silo for other purposes. The project ended up in the trash, the only part I kept was the cages, ladders, railings and walkway.
Has anyone else had this issue with this lit?
Thanks,
Henry
Has Details Associates shut down? -- No
In another forum there's an unconfirmed report that Detail Associates has shut down operations.
They are/were a supplier of diesel loco and freight car detail parts in HO scale.
Also are/were supplier of some passenger car parts, decals, hardware, and
structure parts.
Can anybody confirm or deny the reported shut down?
Thanks much.

Alco 2-6-0 (Bachmann Sound Value)
I was just impressed today, and I wanted to share it here, because, honestly, ONLY model railroaders will get this (heaven knows the flat mate doesn't)
So, I have three Bachmann Alco 2-6-0s with Sound Value. Two are from the "Echo Valley Express" set (one I got the set, the second was a birthday gift... both basic, and plastic) and the third is the metal one that you buy by itself. All three sound value, and all three look IDENTICAL! (similar weights even)
