Status of July magazines **July 17th update**

E

The July issue of MRH and Running Extra are on track for an almost-on-time release.

MRH should be going out for final text-only staff review by the morning of the 14th.

Ad placement should begin later that day, and MRH should show up very late on the 15th or on the wee hours of the 16th.

Running Extra will be about two days behind MRH this time, likely showing up the evening of Saturday, July 17th.

I will keep you posted because things do come up, including an unexpected family emergency that takes time away from the office.

Is it time for some mention of the July issue?

There has been no mention of the July 2021 issue yet. The inference is that it will also be delayed. If true that would be understandable. I'm in good health, age adjusted, and the second Covid shot gave a bad reaction. (Chills, fever, then night sweats. then it was done) I can only imagine what a full case can do to you.

Don't rush back for us. If it's going to be late I can read my collection with a finer eye for now.

Uggh - All my back issues are gone - EDIT: Not gone, just invisible in Win10?

Since the very beginning, I've kept every issue of MRH on my network drive for easy reference from any device the house.  I upgraded to a NAS (Network Attached Storage) this weekend and was migrating everything over from the network drive when I discovered that all the folders exist for each MRH edition, however, the folders were empty.  Every. Single. One.  I don't know how this happened as I've referenced different issues regularly over the years.  I just read June's issue a couple weeks ago, but its gone, too.

The 3 Former Railroads That Sell The Most Model Railroad Locomotives And Cars

In my opinion, the three former railroads that sell the most model railroad locomotives and cars are the Southern Pacific Railroad, Santa Fe Railway, and the Pennsylvania Railroad. There are a lot of people that love at least one of these railroads. Think about it; the SP, ATSF, and PRR had nice paint schemes on their locomotives. What three former railroads do you think that sell the most model railroad locomotives and cars?

Status of June magazines

(As of June 15 at 3:45 PM Pacific)

MRH:

The June MRH is done now and ads are being placed, then the media and comment pages are being generated, and all links tested. We're running about two days behind at this point, so the June issue should be out later this week.

Major alert ... Joe and Patty got Covid, now convalescing

Heads up, Joe and Patty have come down with some very nasty bug.

UPDATE: Took a covid test to be sure and it's positive, so we have Covid-19.

Expect output from MRH in June to be much reduced. :-(

P.S. That’s the problem with being a mom and pop business. When BOTH mom and pop are sick, nothing moves.

Covering more small layouts

We’ve all seen it ... “the hobby magazines don’t cover enough small layouts.”

Well, if we’re to be on the lookout for these smaller layouts, how would you define small? Doesn't it make sense that if we’re supposed to be covering this size of layout, we know what we’re after?

My one request is that you keep the definition broad enough we have a fighting chance. Make the definition too narrow and we’re sunk before we start.

My one sense is that it’s not so much “small” per se but more what I would call “achievable” layouts. If that’s so, then what’s an achievable layout, then?

Happy Birthday Joe....one day late !

Happy Birthday Joe...even if it is a day late ! This last year has been a real challenge...but we made it through. Hope you had a great day, and got to do something fun.

Procor Tank Cars

Re: Procor "GP20" tank cars.  "Current non-pressure (general service) tank cars, contrary to the comments concerning Rapido's models, do not have "domes" --- a "dome" on obsolete tank cars is correctly called an "expansion dome".  Today, what are incorrectly called "domes" on pressure and non-pressure (not "low-pressure) are "protective housings".  Google "Field Guide for Tank Cars" --- it gives the true terminology for tank cars (which are not "tankers" or "tanker cars&quo
