MRH Magazine general discussion

Is October RE/MRH one page off in "adaptive view" ?

Anybody else notice this?

When viewing the combined Running Extra / MRH file in landscape mode in Sidebooks on my tablet, it looks like the pages that are meant to go together are actually split between the previous/following pages. For example, in RE, the map on pages 9&10 (Limited Modeler column) - the left side of the map (page 9) shows on the right side of one spread coupled with page 8, but the right side of the map (page 10) is on the next two-page spread with page 10.

October magazine status

Status of the October MRH and Running Extra.

Both are just getting through the final staff review now. We will be placing ads in MRH and testing the links.

I expect MRH to hit the website in quiet release tomorrow afternoon. Give it a day plus to bake in and for any big boo-boos to be found, then we will release the final version of MRH and also post Running Extra most likely Sunday evening.

The come-and-get-it big email blast for MRH will go out Monday, Oct 5th.

Bookmarking specific articles

Is there any way to bookmark specific articles for later retrieval?  I have taken to cutting up my model railroad magazines and filing the “keeper” articles by topic. I don’t want to print the MRH articles to do this, but I’d like to find a way to do something similar electronically. Ideally, even highlight the relevant text.

Thank you

Backing Up Your Blog Posts

Watching the MRH site update last night, not being able to post, or even access the website for a while, made me wonder if I should be backing up my blog posts somehow.

A back-up of all of my photos exists at home, but none of the text.

I frequently go back to my own blogs and topic posts to remember how I completed a given task if I have been away from modeling for a few weeks or months, and need to do it again.

In the future, if I start a new model railroad, I'm going to want that information again also.

Converting Bachmann 2-8-0 to SP prototype

I've noticed that Owl Mountain Models has offered a conversion kit to modify Bachmann's Baldwin 2-8-0 to more closely resemble a Southern Pacific C-8/C-9. Do any of you SP prototype experts know how close a model could be achieved by replacing cylinders, valve gear, domes etc. as per this kit? Just wondering how close the driver size and spacing, boiler diameter and general dimensions etc of the Bachmann model would scale out.

August MRH is out ... Running Extra by EOD Saturday nite

Looks like mid next week for the August issue of MRH and Running Extra. As we get closer, we will provide a precise date. MRH is now out!

Keep in mind we're currently in reduced staff mode due to slower sales right now. Cost cutting measures have helped so we're doing okay, but the reduced staff does mean we have to watch time-to-execute very closely.

New MRH format for July (take 2) ... give it a try!

Okay, after some feedback, here's where it looks like we're headed with the new MRH PDF format.

We have two versions, but one master.

  1. MRH Adaptive Edition (recommended)
  2. MRH Wide Edition (hard-coded landscape)

Give them a try:
