Power Districts & Safety Curcuit Breakers

I have a wireless NCE system I intend to install on my double deck HO layout. I don't imagine I will be running any more than 4-5 trains at anyone time, and likely it will only be 2 most of the time. There will likely be some double-headers, or even some push-pull.

With a 5amp power supply most recommended by NCE I don't think I will need additional boosters?

Eagle Ford Job

Back in the summer of 1979 as a management trainee on the MP, I was assigned to ride the Eagle Ford Job, which served industries west of the Trinity River near Dallas, TX on the MP, former TP.

While rooting around in a box of old paper, I found the notes I took on that trip.  Thought the group might be interested in a minute by minute account of a real switching job from 1979.

The job had engine MP 1210, an SW9 and originated at Browder Yard, west of Dallas.

As soon as I can find a ZTS map of the area, I will post that too.

More DS64's

With the alterations to track work completed for the entrance to the Shippensburg Classification Yard, it was time to connect another DS64 for the operation of the Tortoise Switch Machine servicing the two yard leads & yard ladder.

Need help with JMRI

I just received my brand new Rapido Trains n scale Dash 8-40cm with ESU loksound. I have been trying to run it on JMRI with my dcc++ base station. I have been able to do some basic programming and have added it to my roster but, unfortunately, when I select it and enter the throttle I cannot get it to respond at all. I have also tried the Engine Driver app but still have no control. This is my first time using JMRI and I have no idea what the issue could be.

A Hypothetical: EMC's FT

The EMC FT locomotive is well-known for being the locomotive that killed steam. A four-unit demonstrator set toured the country, starting in November of 1939. It ran for 11 months, through 35 states, and racked up 84,000 miles. This was really the first diesel-electric locomotive that demonstrated to railroads that diesels could haul freight more effectively than steam locomotives (in general cases).

Bridge Rectifiers

Hi

Someone suggested to me that instead of using Resistors and diode and Zener diodes in constructing a keep alive I use a bridge rectifier attached to the Super Capacitors.

Any body want to weigh-in on this idea?

Modeling the Fickle Fortunes of Granger Shortlines

During the late 70's and early 80's, granger shortlines came and went with shifts in grain prices, closing of local elevators, and evaporating state subsidies. So it was with the Erie Western and it's successor Chicago & Indiana. Blink and you missed them.

Happily, modeling gives us an opportunity to go back and enjoy those times again. Witness Erie Western 1602 and, just a few months later, Chicago & Indiana's ex CR RS11 7647. ERES' paint scheme was splashy and bold. CINR's was frugal, but creative in its own way.

My power builds

Breathing life back into this beast hoping to become a GP30 HH unit for my freelanced road.

Got a PNW resin GP30 cab with high hood for my GP30 and it went south from there.

As the PNW part was for a phase 2 unit and my models are phase 1 unit's so I ended up cutting away most of the cab from the PNW part keeping the nose and cab brow.

I then altered the cab on my GP30 as I will try to graft these parts together to get a HH GP30.

More to come.
