N scale tires from Lego blocks.

Hello

I accidentally found this while I was scratch building a bridge.

Cut heads from Lego blocks.

Backside of head has a dip already.

Drill a hole. File the outer edge of the head.

Intermountain GP10s have the shakes

I recently purchased three of Intermountain Railway’s GP10s. They are a beautiful in appearance, but I’m experiencing a noticeable shake at lower speeds. This is my first experience with IM products and am wondering if others have had a similar performance issue.

I’ve been running my units for extended time to break them in but the shake is ever apparent. Seems that something is binding in the mechanism. The drive train looks solid, so my guess is something in the gears is causing the problem.

Teetering on the Edge of Another Rabbit Hole - Passenger Train Consists

What a fascinating - and frustrating - hobby this is! It offers an amazing amount of depth and breadth - everything from carpentry, electronics, art, scenery, architecture, historical research - but who has the time or money (or either!) to do any more than scratch the surface? The best model railroads balance all these wonderful aspects into a cohesive whole. And almost all model railroads risk teetering off that balance into a rabbit hole . . .

Scaling down weight

I'm not sure if this is a Eureka! moment, or if I just reinvented the wheel, but.....

MTM: Chester Fesmire | band of buddies

You will never know how thankfull I am for the modelers that are in my periphery. I am literally surrounded by amazing artists who are quite satisfied with their art, and less so with fame. To me, it is really humbling to see what the difference is between a wealthy modeler and one that scrapes by with only the tools he needs.

Like a cheapo camera and simple household lamps for "studio lighting"

How to Model Tarmac using Grit

This week I'm looking at how to model tarmac/asphalt using silicon carbide grit. It's a really easy method.

Maple Leaf Consist

With Rapido coming out with the U-4-b in 2022 I got the itch to model Grand Trunk Western's Maple Leaf.  I am having trouble finding information on what the consist would be for this train in the early 1950's. Does anybody have this information available of where I could find it?  Thanks in advance

Loco color choices

Hey guys I got a color choice question on a loco repaint that I am looking to do.  I did some research and it seems the long island railroad used GP38's along the way.  Now I know that they were blue/white or blue/silver not sure which but what color of blue should I use?  The white or silver is a given LOL.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks Keith
