Alternatives to Plywood

I was searching through the posts for less expense alternatives to plywood.  We all know that cost of plywood has sky rocketed so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Any photos or videos of alternatives would be helpful as well.

Thanks. . .

MRC Prodigy coiled cable?

As I understand it, the MRC Prodigy system uses a RJ45 cable. I have a coiled cable for one of my throttles and I can't remember where the heck I got it. I dearly wish I'd ordered a couple more and the shorter cables that come with the throttles aren't terribly long.

Yes, I Googled the thing and found a lot of listings that are no longer valid.

I just wanna confirm it is indeed a RJ45 cable (I saw mention of it on my internet search) and if anyone knows a vendor which might have new coiled cables with the fittings on each end.

Planning out Plattsburgh on my Layout

In this short video I talk about the plan for my first layout section, and share my progress on roadbed and trackwork. Enjoy!

Modratec WIT component sought

In building the BQR-v1, I used a beautiful lever frame made by Modratec in Australia. All nicely machined brass, it provided a mechanical means to operate the turnouts in my yard. In preparing to move, I removed the WIT components to prevent them going astray. Modratec seems to have gone silent -- a hazard with any small manufacturer in this industry. Other than the lever frame, the nicest component of the system was the adjustable clutch that rode on the piano wire. One screw adjusted the position of the points operating wire and a spring-loaded screw varied the drag on the piano wire.

Need some TCS WOWsound decoder advice.....

Sometime ago I installed a TCS WOWsound in an O scale Toby 2-8-2T engine, replacing an older Tsunami. Aside from the odd (to me) programming method, it seemed to work quite well, excellent sound and good motor control.  My layout was at the laying track stage so it was used sparingly with a couple of cars.  Now my mainline is finished and I’ve been running all the locomotives I’ve got and came across some weird behavior of the TCS decoder.

Hershey Chocolates - Boxcar Conversion...

Today I started the conversion of an Athearn - NAC 50' Plug Door Boxcar.  The Athearn cars are an exact match for the prototype.<

RRampMeter Surprise

Have just installed a RRampMeter on the HO layout.  On cutting the alligator clips to install permanently I was surprised at how light the wiring is, certainly not the 12-14 gauge recommended for the bus. Mind you, same applies for the wiring on the PSX breakers. Next surprise was the meter readings. Haven't got it much above 2 amps yet, even with four sound and several non sound locomotives running. This supply is also feeding a N layout so doesn't seem to be any need for a booster yet.

HO Scale Atlas Turntable Modification Troubles

Hi all,

I have, for the past several weeks, been in the process of trying add a longer bridge and pit to an Atlas turntable. I have been having problems with the pit and bridge. I messed up the cutting of the pit and it is not exactly circular and the central pivot that the bridge rotates on is not exactly centered, so the bridge is liable to bind as it rotates. I have done my best to fill in the pit to get it circular, but the bridge is still an issue.
