KY&N: Setting the Benchmark! (Or at least the height)

Pending the sale of our old house, I am getting close to starting benchwork construction. First, new electrical in basement needs finished, then new lighting.

Couplers

I have been tinkering with model railroading. Not nearly enough time to do everything I want here! I am now using updated DCC equipment but found some of my old cars.... 60's and 70's???

The couplers are different. Who has a recommendation of how to upgrade. What works best (and easy to switch out)?

You experts out there have never let me down before!

Thanks,

Gene

Layout Update 01/16/2020

N-Scale Layout plans for review please

Sorry for the long post...  After having spent a good deal of time reading through track plan reviews, I tried to answer as many questions as I could think of up front :)

Below is the track plan I have designed in 3rd Planit for review, thoughs, and opinions please.  Along with a lengthy description of notes I have put down for both myself and this post.

Info Sought: Northwest Branch or Short Lines

Hey, gang. Looking for some design inspiration for a small shelf layout I'm planning. Besides Pennsylvania, the other location I've long had an interest in is the Pacific Northwest. The Northern Pacific, Great Northern, Spokane, Portland & Seattle and the Milwaukee Road (and other local short lines) are all railroads I'm interested in, but have little knowledge about. I thought it would be fun an educational to explore some of the smaller branch lines (especially end-of-line locations) in that part of the world for a possible small layout.

Mount/Work Box for NCE PowerCab

The small size of NCE's PowerCab DCC system makes it ideal for taking to the workbench - or even taking to a show. But not being mounted to anything makes its ungainly components a bit inconvenient to manage. So I made a foamcore box to mount all the stuff to - and was even able to include the USB interface so I could use the PowerCab for programming.

Steel sheathed grain elevator

I am in the process of assembling a Cornerstone Steel Sheathed Grain Elevator. The difficulty that I am having is deciding the color to paint the structure for the location and time era that I am modeling. The time era ra is the late 1950’s and the location is the Midwest (Indiana). I have read where some owners left it the natural sheet metal color, whereas other would paint their structures (red, white, beige). I would like to hear various opinions as to what color would be the most prototypical for the time era and location that I am modeling.

Looking for a coal flood loader with balloon track in WV (FOUND)

A while back I was in Google Earth, scrolling through coal country West Virginia looking around the various main lines for coal operations. In this particular session I started following the rail lines from VA into WV along I64 and looked at places like Pax, WV.

Log House

I scratch built a log house. I made it using some sticks, plaster, junk mail, tin foil and a few other odds and ends.

Question about Drawer Glides

I need some roller bearing drawer glides for something in my train room and I have a question:

Drawing of ball bearing drawer glide

When purchasing a 24" drawer glide, does the 24" refer to measurement A (the amount it extends), B (the minimum collapsed length), or C (the total max length when fully extended)?
