Mike Confalone video coming to TrainMasters - status update
We had hoped to have the Mike Confalone interview video come to TrainMasters on or about the 20th of Jan, but unfortunately, that's not going to happen as planned. It will be delayed by at least a week.
Mike's layout room has areas of darker and lighter lighting, and the video used room lighting rather than special lights. That meant we had to do a number of special tricks to get the shadow area details to show reasonably well without blowing out the whites like the melting snow piles.

Roadbed height transistion advice please
I have mainline tracks on 3/16" roadbed. My spurs are on 1/8" roadbed. In all areas except the one pictured below I have had sufficient length to make very gradual transitions. This one spot however has a turnout in the spur almost immediately after it leaves the main.
I am concerned that the height transition is going to be way too short even though it is only 1/16". I do not want to make any of the transition under the turnouts themselves. That sounds like trouble in the making. The tangent between the turnouts is 4.5" long.
Make your own Unitrack lengths
Fifer Hobby has a page of how-tos that I find very interesting.

I'm going to buy short lengths of Unitrack this weekend at Trainmaster Models in Buford, GA as I don't have the tools yet to make my own lengths.

JMRI throttle problem
I have set-up JMRI panel pro (ver 3.40) using NCE Power Cab. My locos are programmed and
throttles assigned. They all operate as expected - but here is the problem........
When using the Power Cab throttle the locos respond quickly as I have programmed them, but
when using the JMRI throttles (using any command) there is a 15 to 20 second delay then the locos respond properly.
This occurs both on the main and programming track. I am using new 7' cables connecting the NCE USB

Richlawn RR V2 - Doin' the Can-Can on the Doodlebug track
With all of the main track in place I started work on the Doodlebug track which will run around the layout in a "U" shape with stops on both ends and an intermediate stop in Hoovertown. I wanted a little vertical variety so I used the Woodland Scenics 2% included foam to raise the track level from "base" up by 1/2" actual inches which will be about 44" scale inches in HO. I'll be using Tam Valley Depot's shuttle control to run the trolley.
MTH vs Athearn Big Boy
A member of our club has asked me my opinion of the Athearn Big Boy with Tsunami vs the MTH with their proprietary system. What is your opinion of the model and the decoders?

Planning for operation & Monday night mail train
The following is an account of how I have set about designing my layout and operating scheme.
Networked Fast Clocks
Looking to enhance your operations with a fast clock system? Do you need multiple displays around the layout? Do you want a configurable, yet easy to use system for your operators? The Iowa Scaled Engineering Fast Clock system may be exactly what you need providing wired or wireless networking between clocks, three stored start times, programmable fast time ratios from 1.0:1 to 99.9:1 to match any operating scenario, and a highly flexible, yet easy to use interface.

In addition to modeling, I volunteer as a docent at the Evansville Museum of Art, History and Science (http://www.emuseum.org), in particular at the Transportation Center.
Single use double bubble Epoxy
Ok guys,
This ones a little off topic. Anyone know of an epoxy that comes in anything smaller then 3.5 Gram packets?
I have need to attach a lot of very small ( about 7/8"x 7/8" ) item to a grave stone. Way off topic but then again with miniature models others may find the results useful. I have found "double bubble Epoxy" packets but even those are overkill for what I need.
