Trackwork

In search of the perfect ties
Work is progressing on my Milan branch of the IAIS. I’ve been laying roadbed and testing different approaches for tie distress and staining. Take a look at the images with captions in the next post.

Hand Laying Track Video
Hand Laying Track
Hey every one. Here is a video that I quickly put together on how I hand lay my straight track.
Not the best video but that's another hobby

Farewell inglenook
Now that my inglenook is functional, Im looking for some scenery ideas such as grass, weeds, etc. My base scenery or as I like to call it my blank canvas is ready.
As much as I like weeds on sidings, I'm thinking of a dirt and mud look.

Are the results worth the effort?
I've been working on the trackwork for a 4' module and I've spend close to 8 hours weathering the track, and I'm not finished yet! I'm just looking for a little validation that all of the effort is worth the outcome.
One thing I will not continue doing is adding joint bars. Even with adding rust to them before applying chalk, they are invisible.
Bachmann dcc turnouts
I have a Bachmann starter set equipped with the Dynamis controller and a dcc turnout. I cannot get this turnout to respond or program in the accessory position. I have decided that these things are not worth the effort and I will go with remote and manual turnouts. Does anyone have any success with dcc turnouts?
Electrical Gap on Curve
Whenever planning electrical gaps on my layout I have always tried to have those occur on straight sections of track. However, on the current layout I'm building I have one or two spots where I would like to have an electrical gap on a curve, including one on a hidden helix. Normally on curves I solder my metal rail joiners so I have a nice smooth rail with no kinks. I'm worried that the plastic rail joiner I use at electrical gaps won't be strong enough to keep the curved rail aligned properly.
End of Track
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what a prototype railroad would use to indicate the "end of the line". Say like in a staging area or such. Something that keeps the rolling stock or locos from running off the track. Around here I can't think of an area to go look at. I am also trying to find it for the 1920-40 era.
Thanks in advance.
