Resistance Soldering Station

Just curious: Those of you that use a resistance soldering station what brand / wattage and voltage do you use? I'm thinking of getting one to solder track and light electrical wiring work and I'd like to know what to consider. American Beauty seems to be the popular brand.

Brass track

I know the best answer to this question is "Throw the stuff out!". But humor me for a while and give me your answer to: What are the main reasons to avoid brass track? and any answers to: How to best overcome these named problems. Seeing that it was used so long before N/S came along, some must have dealt with it successfully. I ask this to be able to answer others on the "evils" of brass. I know the best conductor for track would be GOLD, but its a little out of our price range.

Resin Cast Tie Strips

Being interested in TT scale also I've discovered that the scale doesn't enjoy many products that are available to both N and HO sale, especially track components. If they are available the they quite costly or need to be imported from Europe. So you are either left with a product that doesn't quite look North American, or you will need to hand lay all the track. A couple of track producing companies were approached to see if they would make flex track in TT scale.

Workin' on Joint Bars - for the BNML

I realized some time ago that I'm going to need hundreds of joint bars for the BNML and a recent discussion ( Staggered rail joints measurements info needed ) here on MRH got me inspired to begin working on them.

The Real Deal:

A new switch for New Brighton

I recently replaced a switch at the east end of New Brighton on my 1977 era Soo Line railroad. For years the original no. 6 would give my headaches by causing derailments especially when making reverse movements through the turnout. I decided that a right hand Shinohara curved switch would be a better candidate for this spot.

The Whole mess so far

Few weeks ago I just showed the upper deck layout plan...not much there has changed....but now I have a start on the Main and staging.  Like I said before, It is a modified version of Pldvdk's N&W Pokey Division with his blessing.  Im modeling the GTW, but freelanced....so no coal mines.  The layout plan no where close to finished, but I really liked Paul's concept of the mainline so id like to try and keep it like it is.

Light Iron Turnout Co. - any comments or tips?

I am looking into options for my upcoming HOn3 project, including assembled turnouts from the Light Iron Turnout Co (LITCO).

I have heard good things about their On30 trackwork, can anyone with experience with their HOn3 turnouts please comment? I am interested in how well they are built, and any tips for using them with Code 55 Micro Engineering flextrack.
