Benchwork - Roadbed
Shelf layout with helix question
Hey guys I have been contemplating doing a module layout but in the form of shelves. The layout will be in a "U" shape with 2 main lines on each shelf. I want to have one mainline going one way and the other going the opposite. When it gets to the end of the shelf, one side will have a loop to go down the other main. On the other side is my question er problem LOL.
Roadbed or no roadbed?
I'm to the point of laying roadbed and track on the main level of my layout.
Limon Layout more Foam and Plaster
Well here's an update to my layout construction. This is series of pics of the foam and plaster work.
I used everything I could to save on cost from floral foam, left over foam insulation from the base work, to packing paper and foam peanuts. I started painting the base color a dark green. I used large bottles of Christmas green craft acrylic mixed with a bit of burnt umber.
Next update will be the start of landscaping.
Hardboard backdrop - separate primer or self-priming paint?
I will be painting my backdrop soon. It's tempered hardboard with taped and mudded joints. My assumption has been that I would first prime the hardboard with something like Kilz white primer and then paint my sky over that. As I have been looking at paint products at Home Depot, I see there are products such as the Behr Premium Plus line that has a primer built into the formula. Do those integrated paints work well or am I better off using the primer first?
Eastern California V2.0 Update #2
A quick update for the second week of construction. Track work has come to a grinding halt while I install the Faller Car System in what will be Downtown Los Angeles.
The system uses a small wire embeded in the road for equipped cars to follow using magnets.
Lemonade from lemons
.After doing extensive scenery work I decided to vacuum the rails. I always hate that even though I do have a small vacuum...the hose is too stiff and the rigid end is too long. I seem to always hit at least one thing!

Shelf onstruction
Anybody build a shelf layout with a 36 in turnaround, a 6 ft shelf. Is it possible without a post support?
Eastern California V2.0 Update #1
The first weekend of construction has come to a close and benchwork is underway on the new modern layout.
First trains running on the Duluth & Iron Range Lakefront Division!
The track crew (me) has been hard at work putting down handlaid code 55 track. The crew has gotten from Two Harbors to Knife River in the past few days. I've used up my wood ties, and I have another hundred feet or so of mainline that will be laid with ME c55 flex track.
The real Lakefront Division was completed in 1886 as a requirement for the D&IR to satisfy the conditions of the land grant they received from the state. It ran for 26 scenic miles along the north shore of Lake Superior from Duluth to Two Harbors, MN.
