Locos - Rolling stock (general)
Clear coat
I just got a brass loco that I would consider mint and the clearcoat is flawless. Why must I remove it before painting? What would be the minimum cleaning I should do? If I consider it the primer will it matter what brand paint I spray? Blayne
Transfer caboose
I have been working on a home brew transfer caboose.......the kit I`m using started out as a kit from Moloco.
In this kit was an Athearn 50' flat car kit..........I decided this was too big for this transfer caboose.......so I`m using a Tichy 40' flat car that I had built back in 2007 but did not paint until 2008, I had yet to decal this car so it was no loss to me to soda blast the paint off of the car where I needed to glue additional parts.
Heralds on ribbed cars
All,
I am looking for some advise on painting some MDC thrall gondolas, particularly a simpler was of getting a Herald over the ribs:
Here is my dilemma I have 30 undecorated MDC high side coal gondolas I'd like to paint into BN which is easy in itself....just black however I'm not thrilled with applying decals over the ribs or masking every car, I am thinking about perhaps a jig that would go over the ribs and so it could be used more than once and saving hours of work.
Suggestions?
Thanks
N Scale RDC's - Can they be repurposed?
Even though to date I have been mostly a lone wolf, I have begun thinking more about what operations will be supported and fun (both lone wolf and multiple operators.) Long story short, I have realized that a significant portion of my potential stops are as much or more passenger related than industry:
How to Model Construction Debris Loads for your Gondolas
So since I've returned from a year of college, I've had a rather major change of heart about my passion for model railroading (and it's not the change of heart you would likely assume). Rather than lose my love for the hobby, I find myself even more appreciative of it. However, that new appreciation does come with a loss. I decided about a month ago to change railroads, locales, seasons, and eras. I've traded in my HO scale New York Central layout set during the summer of 1958 in Upstate New York for a modern (Feb.

Four, the only HBMS GE 70 tonner I never saw so I never got my own photographs of it.
Boxcar Building Blitz (BBB)
As part of my continued avoidance of all things trackwork and electrical related I have started on a bulk modeling project. My continuance down the backdating road requires that I add a significant number of 40 foot boxcars as these were still quite common into the early 1990's in northern Manitoba. To that end I have started working on approximately 25 to 30 boxcars, predominantly Intermountain cars and Trains Canada cars and a smattering of Branchline and True Line Trains cars as well.
Train Masters Weathering Tutorials and my results
I used the weathering methods illustrated and explained by Gary Christensen and Mike Confalone in the Train Masters Videos and I now have weathered 2 box cars (no airbrush). This is my second attempt. I bought a half dozen inexpensive freight cars off Ebay to practice on before trying to weather my nice stuff. I certainly have room for improvement, but I am encouraged with the results so far. I would like to give a big thanks to MRH, Gary and Mike for sharing their knowledge!
Jun 2016-2 - Bob Case’s Baltimore & Ohio West End
Bob Case decided that he wanted to recapture the feeling of being in West Virginia in the spring of 1948 whenever he walked into his basement. He spent many days on the Baltimore & Ohio’s West End between Cumberland, Maryland and Grafton, West Virginia to gather photos and data to build his dream layout.
Scale Craft Engineering
Good morning,
Does anyone have any photos of Scale Craft Engineering HO scale models built up? These are wooden craftsman kits of semi modern rail cars. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
