Scenery - Structures
Highway lines, etc.
Does anyone know of a source of 1/16" yellow tape that could be used for HO scale highway lines, road edge lines, parking lot lines, etc?
I am aware of the November 2010 evening project article that used tape to mask a sprayed yellow line, but I think that technique will be too time consuming for what I need to do.
Thank you for any suggestions and recommendations.
How to Make HO Scale Lamp Shades
Has anyone had any ideas about how to create HO scale lamp shades for 1.4 mm OD, 1.5 V bulbs? I have tried casting with hot glue with some success. I also tried punched/formed aluminum with no success. I have been eyeing up some plastic pen caps thinking that I may be able to cut off the tips and drill to receive light bulbs. I have also bought some shades but would get more satisfaction from making y own. Any help would be appreciated.
UPDATED: Buck & Loretta - Progress 10/27 on their Trailer House
Now that my open house is a sweet memory I started working on detailing the scenery in the alcove area - specifically the left rear corner that contains the trailer and log cabin. In my previous blog post for Buck & Loretta's trailer house I showcased their new toilet planter. It is still a work in process, but I wanted to share the progress in the trailer area.
Realistic Water - Second Coat Suggestions Requested
I created a stream bed brushing on plaster over foam. As you can see below, the stream bottom is painted, rocks and some branches added and a first layer of WS Realistic Water applied. The painted bottom is a bit strong and I would like to add a second layer of water, but first color the water shades of green/blue. What are some techniques to add color to Realistic Water? Thanks, John.
Your Opinion Please - On camera angle for train videos
I was looking at my recently produced model train video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2tmmfw4Ue8 and noticed that in all of the run by scenes the camera looks from a very high distance from the ground - about 15 sale (HO) feet! This is because the lens on my MUVI(tm) micro camcorder is at the very top of the unit. I wanted to try a lower angle so I turned my camcorder upside down and recorded a run by. This gave me a viewing distance of about 5 scale (HO) feet from the ground. Next I used my video editing software to flip the video image horizo
Ken Rickman - Modeling Kudzu Experiment
Ken,
I tried an experiment in modeling Kudzu. Below are the pictures of the technique and results.
On the left is the Woodland Scenics green poly fiber. On the right is the fiber pulled thin.
Modeling Kudzu?
Has anybody come up with a good way to model Kudzu?
I've been looking at the stuff all year (what do you think an engineer does, look down the track?) as I run through the countryside, and I've noticed a few things. For one, I like the look, the consistency of it. For another, it doesn't look anything like ground foam. Finally, it changes according to the season.

Walthers Ore Dock repair_Plastic part replicated with brass etching
The club has a Walthers ore dock that will be used in the new layout expansion. It had a broken bracket that supports one of the ore chutes. I decided to replicate the plastic part with a brass etching. I used my new Nikon D5000 to shoot the video. It came out blurry in some shots due to low light but you can see the process I used.
Redneck Flower Planter, or subtitled "I never promised you a rose garden"
Well, when Buck & Loretta's old toilet busted Buck was going to throw it out when Loretta said "Honeybunch, ain't it a waste to throw away such a nice ole' toilet as it's got a lotta of good memories". Buck put on his thinkin' cap (the camo one) and came up with a brilliant idea - a beautiful front yard planter! He hauled the toilet out front of his trailer house and Loretta did the planting of some purretee pink roses!
