Cutting Foam for Scenery

I have moved into adding foam around the track work that has been laid already.  I want to run trains in the mountain area without the risk of locos or rolling stock dashing to the floor.  Hence the foam.

Now I don't know about you but I have worked with foam before...in the garage...and it can get messy.  Well the new layout is in the 'man cave'.  This is a "den/extra room" that I installed double doors on and thereby was granted free reign of my new kingdom.  Behind closed doors, but nevertheless free reign!!

Mountain construction using puffball (and other) trees

This thread is related to the thread entitled "The Great Puff Ball Debate...."  http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/8034 and is in reply to "John from Canada" for his request about the construction of my Misti Mountain area on my railroad.  I didn't want to hijack Conrail079's thread.  Much of this material has been presented before; however it was some time ago and over several threads.

Home made flowers

In another post of mine "Got Pot?"  http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/8123 I showed how to make flower pots from "findings" and Noch "flowering plants".  One poster asked about cheaper alternatives to the Noch product.  Below is a flower pot with flowers made from a wooden bead where the flowers are "sticks" from SuperTrees(tm) and the flowers peddles are Woodland Scenics "Flowers".  I dabbed the sticks in white glue and then in the WS flowers.  The flower pot sits just outside Midge's Corner Cafe in dow

Pulpwood Unloader

So I am looking for some ideas that you may have come up with for modeling a pulpwood unloader for a paper mill project that I am working on. I have wood chip unloading taken care of with an off scene unloading facility (sorry not enough room to model that) The picture below is one that Bernard Kempinski scratch built for his Dancor module several years ago.

Wiring Traffic Gates

I need help to wire up two road gates at a road crossing.  The layout is Lionel with 2 main parallel tracks using 3-rail track.  The layout has 2 power packs, one for each main line.  I need the road gates to operate (gates go down to block traffic when a train approaches), one gate on each side of the two main tracks.  The gates need to operate if there is a train traveling on main line 1 or 2, operating the same gates.  Lionel sells mechanical pressure switc

A couple photos of my layout

Here are a couple photos of my N scale layout.
