Scenery - Structures
My Essex Terminal Black Bridge basic scenery
I thought i would try my hand at a bit of scenery on my layout starting with this bridge scene, Will need trees bit more ballast water. Following soon.
New fencing!
Built a chain link fence as an experiment using craft store "jewelry wire". Came out ok I think as this is my first attempt at this using wire. Sorry for the fuzzy photo as I took it with my cell phone camera. I still need to paint it and actually install it permanently into position.
HO Scale
King Stone
King Stone is just about done - a few more "people" working will make it more complete. Also, attached from left to right is an overview of the railroad - East Yard to East Tunnels to Westbound past King Stone and Ivanhoe Road Station. To the right of the station is the future bridge to the West portion of the layout scheduled for construction in January. In the foreground you can see the last two sidings to be put in that cross over one another - left going to right coal company trestle and right going to left and down to a lower level box company.
Dirt darkening when glued down
...So I've been experimenting using sifted dirt over the painted Sculptamold, using diluted white glue, then later spraying with diluted matte medium to seal it. The problem is that the dirt is significantly darker after it's glued down. I thought it might be the matte medium, so I left that off. Then I thought that maybe it was the dilution of the glue, so I reduced the water until, finally, I was using just straight glue. That seemed to help somewhat, but the glued-down dirt still has a mottled, darker-than-natural color. What am I doing wrong?
I need help with using SMD LEDs
I want to use SMD LEDs, as shown below, To light a structure with a 12v DC power supply. I have NO information on how to wire these LEDs . I have used 3mm LEDs for loco lights so I do have some experience. I need information on polarity, why 3 contacts on each side, do they all need to be wired... I guess I need to know a lot.
Thinking about trying my hand at scratchbuilding...(N Scale)
so I have an odd distance from the front of my layout to the closest siding, and I was thinking that a long, narrow warehouse would fit in real well. I was thinking about making it a sale 50 feet wide, 200 feet long, and have three car spots, with roll up doors. I plan to model a pair closed, and have one open. I was thinking about having a concrete floor foundation that is the same height as a boxcar floor, and appearing like this:
polystyrene good for creating scenery or not
I recently got my hands on a few pieces of polystyrene over the past couple of days and was wanting to use it to create the foundation of mountains with crumpled up newspaper placed in certain areas then drape plaster cloth over everything to create a solid frame to paint and mould into scenery how would I go about getting the heights right in order to make them realistic in height and size according to the scale of the train set
Lots of scenery progress - rocks, rocks, and maybe some landforms w/ rocks!
All the details and lots of photos on my blog:
