Horseshoe & Cottonwood Update #8
Productive weekend on the H&C with the town of Carroll Creek mostly in place:
The town of Carroll Creek is basically on a canyon ledge above the creek. I left room for a little depot and some cabins, perhaps even a few on stilts in the front?
Photo backdrop adhesion problems
I mounted a 24" by 96" photo-backdrop on 1/8 inch fiberboard with Krylon or 3 m spray adhesive. It was fine (and looked great ) for several months. Now the photo has started to "blister." See attached photo. By blisters I mean that there are a number of places where the photo no longer adheres and it sticks out in a bump. The bumps or blisters are an inch or so wide and 5-12 inches long. Any idea why this is happening. I do have humidity problems.
How to model culverts - quick and easy videos
I was looking at a set of 4 Woodland Scenics culverts and thought, I can do a set of videos on them.
Just one more to go...
School House
MY LATEST BUILD -
Since my wife is a retired educator, she wanted a school house on the layout. It will be added to the newest town of Watersmeet, MI to be built on my HO scale CNW Peninsula Div. railroad. The building is a kit bash using two DPM kits. The base kit is #106 Laube's Linen Mill. I will admit that it was not my original idea. I found the design article in the Model Railroad special publication "Modeling Railroads of the 1950's". The original building was to be a YMCA residence, but it looked like a good design for a 1950 schoolhouse.
Problem with Model Master paint coming off with masking tape
Recently I've had a problem with Model Master paint coming off a plastic structure model when masking tape was removed.
REA Express Mockup for Union Station
I have been working in the Union Station area over the last few days. One building, aside from the main passenger station, that is important is the REA Express Building. The following pictures show the B/W version of the building. It is based upon the original N-scale version of the building in Kansas City but has been modified to fit the available space. The mockup design version is a PDF (gray scale) printed on cardstock and glued to poster board.
The backdrop has finally been desided and painted
So you think you can't paint a backdrop it took me 8 tries and lots of YouTube videos to learn the techniques to paint what I needed. Also lots of photos of the Colorado Front Range, I got to spent a lot of time there in the last few months. But here you go a few pictures of my efforts. This is over 12 feet long only 278 more feet to go but I got this done in 2 day at very relaxed pace not much more then 6 hours of work the rest was drying time. 7 photos and a sample of the fore ground work to follow soon.
Building a BTS coal tipple laser kit
I am done messing around with loco repairs/upgrades for a while and concentrating now on building my coal mine tipple. I really like laser kits and I've got several from BTS under my belt but this will be the most complex kit that I've tackled. I expect it will keep me busy for some months to come. I am going to post progress pics here with some thoughts on construction as I go along.
It should turn out something like this.
Add strength to rock work
Some pictures of some rock work I did were shown off at school and now I have been asked to make a rock for a school play to hold the Excalibur sword in 1:1 scale. I have some blue foam board to use as a structure base and was given 25 pounds of plaster of Paris to "make it work". I'm going to use a bunch of rock molds for detail and a skim coat over all to hold the paint but I would like to harden to finish work a little so it can last to be used again if possible. Anyone have any thoughts on this I would truly appreciate it. The overall si
