Track radii

I have a couple of questions regarding track radius...

Joe had a superb article on track radii in issue 1 of MRH.  Here's my dilemma.

My 1970's era HO lay out is a 19.5 x 14 L shaped along two walls with a turnaround loop at each end (for continuous running)  One loop will be a 30" radius, while the second will be 27 or 28" r. It could possibly be stretched to 30 if I must. I'll have to put access hatches in both loops for maintenance and during construction.

Perkins spur - or a journey in HO modelling! Picture update!

Good morning,

Got around to finish soldering and connecting the feeders on the main, siding and NE spur this morning.  In the meantime, I got a few pics of some progress.

The outside curve with a radius of 25 1/2", pinned in place.

Perkins spur - or a journey in HO modelling! Another picture update!

Good morning gents,

Another update with pictures dating from the debut of September showing the progress of my layout.  Some tracks, mainly the turnouts are in their final, glued position while the tracks continuing east have just been pinned in place temporarily.

Looking at the start of the runaround and with the diverging spur leading to the paper recycling industry.

Perkins spur - or a journey in HO modelling! Update

The brown lines are the height contour (3/4") for the industry in the upper right corner (NE).  On the lower part (S), it's again 3/4" but for the mainline that continues out of the layout to the (S) and (W).

I'll post more tomorrow and thanks Damin for the compliments, this plan was a real pleasure to work on and if I hadn't started building it, I could have modified it over and over and over...  well, you get the picture! :-)

Location To Model

Hi Everyone.

After years of wishing I had the room for a model railroad, I have finally gotten a spare bedroom which is 12'10" x 10'6". I think so far I have decided to go with N Scale and DCC power, with an around the walls layout and an island in the middle, also there is a closet in one corner of the room which is 6'3" x 4'8" which i was going to use for staging.

Track plan for 12'9" x 14" in HO?

Hi,

I've found some space in our apartment for a switching-style shelf layout. This will be my first layout and quite possibly a chainsaw -- we'll see how it turns out!

Dream railroad - throughout 2-story home - is it crazy?

I started my layout a couple years and two moves ago in an apartment (built in sections knowing we would move a couple times before buying our home).  Now, my wife and I have moved into our final 'forever home', and we have talked about the railroad making it's way from the 'train room' through walls into other parts of the house (as shelf style in the other rooms, mostly.

Building a photo diorama

So I've decided after my failed experiment with central valley ties yesterday that building a simple photo diorama to work on some of the great techniques I've picked up around here before I take them elsewhere on a larger scale. Problem is, I'm admittedly not the most creative when it comes to designing things. How much is too much for one of these? Normal sizes?

Perkins spur - or a journey in HO modelling!

Good day all,

Some of you may have seen this already as it has been posted elsewhere, but I thought that this community his bigger and better :-) so why not repost it and see what kind of feedback I can get!  As to not abuse of your patience and time, I won't put everything at the same time.

So... let's start...
