Perkins spur - or a journey in HO modelling! Picture update!
Good morning,
Got around to finish soldering and connecting the feeders on the main, siding and NE spur this morning. In the meantime, I got a few pics of some progress.
The outside curve with a radius of 25 1/2", pinned in place.
With the inner 24" (or so) radius pinned in place. You can see in the background the spur for the industry with a mock-up of the building with 3 50' cars.
Checking clearances with 50 footers before gluing the tracks permanently. I also checked it with a center beam flatcar and everything is ok.
The siding with all the tracks glued and the feeders soldered to the tracks. The soldered feeder job are not pretty, but I'll have to live with them.
Another pic of the siding, glued and feeder wires soldered in place. This section is 24" wide so I have plenty of room to spread out my tools and beverage! :-)
The cleaned and finished West area of the layout. Testing if 50 footers fit between the road and end of track. As you can see, it's all nice but not much room for errors! By the way, this section is 18" wide.
Well, thanks for watching, and hopefully you guys aren't falling asleep while looking at these pictures! :-)
Cheers,
Christian

looking at the weathering on the boxcars - nice job !
David
Thanks...
...for your comment David. I got a head start on weathering some rolling stock while I was planning the layout. Got a GP35 done as well but it won't run on the layout as the front pilot sits too low above the track and it catches the railhead of most grades. I unfortunately will have to sell it! :-( Oh well...
Cheers,
Christian
