DCC with 2 power supplies question

In a Digitrax Super Empire DCC setup using two boosters each with its own power supply, is it necessary to connect the two power supplies together or is the common of the two boosters tied together sufficient?

How I handled my craziest electrical short...

Because of some recent posts devoted to odd electrical problems, I'd like to see a blog started on how anyone has handle(d) these.  (I'd prefer a MRH article but I'll take examples and helpful information on techniques wherever I can get them.)

For this blog I'd like to see folks describe, in as much detail as they're willing to provide, answers to the following questions:

Multiwire connectors steam engine to tender

Installing DCC into older steam engines often requires multi-wire connections between tender and engine.  For those who cannot leave engines permanently coupled, there seem to be few connectors offered directly to the hobbyist.  Depending on scale, some of these connections demand higher power connectors than others, while all can be challenging to fit into the limited spaces.

Best rail break between boosters sections ?

What would be the best rail break between booster sections:

Straight cut through both rails, staggered or a small totally isolated rail section (4 cuts) ?

BTW: would the 2 boosters (NCE 10A) operate in phase or do they run 'loose' sync wise ? My 1st guess is loose with just the command info going over the control bus ...

cheers, Leo

Scale Model Animation 2 – LEDs and Lighting

Model animation—bringing models to life—adds enormously to the interest and enjoyment of any layout or individual model! In this installment I want to touch on more “points” on lighting and LEDs—likely more than you’ll ever want to know!

Any way of adding ditch lights to Atlas GP40-2 with QSI

I have several Atlas GP40-2's with QSI sound. Any way of adding Ditch Lights or nose light to the units.

DCC with <12V motors?

I'm looking at using some motors rated at less than 12VDC in a few models.  Specifically, I'm thinking of using 3V and 6V motors.  I know that a decoder can be programmed to limit maximum voltage, but I have some questions.

Neat Wiring

Here’s a neat way to organize your wiring… I use Drive Rings. They are economical and simple to use. I used the 1/2″ size. They cost about $15 for 100 pc.s.

Help with QSI Q1a decoders

Hello fellow model railroaders.

I am an American H0 model railroader living in Denmark, and I am a daily reader off Model Railroad Hobbyist Magazine. Normally I am quite good in DCC and programming decoders, but now I have a huge problem, that I cant solve my self. I own several Walthers Proto 2000 series EMD Santa Fe F3A units, equipped with the QSI Quantum Q1a sound decoders, software version 176-2v7-37-20 and no problems here.

Driving LED from DCC track power

I've looked at Bruce Petrarca's web site (MrDccU) and he mentioned about using a Bridge Rectifer to drive (power) an LED.  I'm just not 100% sure I know which bridge rectifier I should be using.  I notice that they are rated for different voltage and current (i've got a few hanging around - 100VDC/1.5A, 400PIV/1.5A, 100PIV/2A, and 600V/4A).  Since I'm using a NCE PowerPro booster/Command station at 5A with set voltage of 13V, do I need to obtain a 5+Amp bridge rectifier?
