DCC Sound for Steam & Chuff Cams

Hi all,

I just purchased my first DCC mobile sound decoder - a Digitrax SDH166D.

I have an older Proto2000 USRA 0-6-0 switcher (DCC ready - with a Digitrax DH165LO that I installed) that I use regularly and wanted it to be my first sound enabled loco.

Reading over the installation instructions I noted that I could directly sync the chuff sound by connecting the white chuff wire to a chuff cam. After some Google research I see that there are a number of options - none of which look too easy to install.

Installing a BLMA Searchlight Signal

If you follow what little blogging on here I try to do, then you will already know that I was given (happily) the daunting task of converting a large HO scale layout from ABS signaling to a very prototypical CTC system, which I was allowed to model after UP's CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch). While the way the system operates is very close to today's Union Pacific, the hardware on the layout had to at least give a feel for the Santa Fe, which is what the layout owner models. Good enough for me, just means I get to play with that many more types of signals.

Sudden cogging problem with my MRC 1955 decoder -- hmm

Doggone MRC 1955 decoder went wonky last night. Lost all CVs. After I reset everything, now the motor cogs at low RPM and then stalls between speed steps 7 and 21 (128).

I would be grateful for some fresh insight, as no attempts at further resets have solved either issue.

Thanks much,

Paul Schmidt

RailPro users - How do you think Notching should work?

I've been playing around with my RailPro and although I had some problems getting Manual Notching to work properly, I now have it working.

In my mind, I'd like Notching to work differently.

...so I am posting this to get other users feedback and hopefully have something useful to present to Ring Engineering as a possible feature enhancement.

DCC Decoder or not

I picked up a Genesis USRA 282 light mikado and it had what I assume is a decoder in the box.  The number on it is HND SL1 02/02.  With the decoder installed the unit runs on dc, but I can't get it to do anything on DCC.  First off, can anyone tell me if, in fact, I have a decoder and who is the manufacturer?   I have tried to change the speed steps and change the address and nothing works.  I am new to DCC.

RailPro comes to the BNML - First Thoughts

This weekend I setup my RailPro controller and 1 locomotive. Overall, I am very impressed with the Railpro system.

Installation was straight forward. Usage and configuration is super easy.

I have a few issues to figure out yet; mostly sound related things that don't make sense, but overall, setting this thing up has been a fine experience.

Resistors

Hi,

If you have a 12.5 volt source......and you put in a 1K ohm resistor.......shouldn`t the voltage drop below 12.5 volts?

Dipping a toe...

So I am officially dipping my toe into the dark pool of soul sucking model railroading that is On30 (which seems to be a trend, based on other posts), as I bid on and won a two truck shay on eBay.

General questions about the loco, as I await it's delivery.
