Interaction with blog vs new threads with specific description

As stated, which is more likely to generate most interactions from the forum readers?

I've noticed that a new update on my blogs on various foras gives few replies, but a new thread with the same update gives a lot more.

This is especially important when you need input from the community.

I don't like to spam the forum with a lot of threads as they make it more difficult to find later.

What do you think?

Retarder for hump yard - How to brake the cars in the hump - An open topic to find a brake answer....

Hump yard is a useful device used in the real world since a long time to assign quickly cars to a designed track and build trains.

However scale down an hump yard is not an easy task and because of many difficulties to use it for or models i'ts not often modeled.

Hump yard has like his real brother a lot of interest for our small trains; including it in our layout design could be  a nice feature , fun to operate and welcome to prepare trains  for an operating session.

50s - 60s tank cars for liquid fertilizer

I plan to have a fertilizer/farm supply industry on my layout. From discussions with former FEC engineers, this company received boxcars of bagged fertilizer and tank cars of liquid fertilizer.

Question for freight car experts; for my era of late 50s early 60s what kind of tank car would carry liquid fertilizer? Also, would the tank cars be UTLX lettered or a chemical company such as Dupont or Hooker?

Thank you.

Windows Update and a TCS DCC Install

Got home from work yesterday to find my new TCS WowSound Diesel Kit and Intermountain F7B had arrived. Yay. At the same time I started to drop the decoder into the F7, I started up my gaming computer (8 GB RAM, internet at 30 MB/s), forgetting Windows had scheduled an update.

I open the shell, start up the soldering iron, and locate all of my tools for an install. 5% complete.

I can't help but think of racing this update. 6% complete.

Weekly Photo Fun - April 22 - 28, 2018

Now that tax season is over, we can all relax and model again.  Hopefully, spring will return to those of us in the northern part of the US and Canada!

I'll kick things off with a shot from a module I'm building.  This is a weathered Dash-9 on the former Lehigh Valley RR, now jointly owned by Reading and Northern and Norfolk Southern.  Let's see what you're up to, folks!

Blog vs. discussion forum thread, sharing multiple layout efforts

A couple related questions:

  1. I’m considering starting either a blog or a discussion forum thread to document the planning, design and construction of a small layout. Is there protocol or etiquette about whether I should use a blog or a new discussion forum thread to do this?Pros / cons of either approach?

MRH website (lack of) security

Hi, this is something that has been somewhat bothering me for a while. Whereas best practices tells us that we should use different passwords for different websites, I'm making sure to use a different password for the MRH website because, well, it's not a secure website. I'm not sure about the details on your hosting, but it'd be nice to add encryption and know that you can login and be sure that none sneaking on your network is going to see your password out in the open.

Home page problem

Is it just me or is there a problem with the home page?

It happens only if not already logged in - part of code follows:

DRUSH_BACKEND_OUTPUT_START>>>{"output":"","object":[],"error_status":0,"log":[{"type":"preflight","message":"Drush preflight prepare loaded autoloader at \/data\/disk\/o4409754300\/tools\/drush\/vendor\/autoload.php", ...etc.
