MRH Website general discussion

Recent Posts - How "Recent: is Recent
Just "nitpicking", but how are posts selected to be "recent posts"?
I check these out regularly, but some haven't had any "action" for over a year.
Personal Messages
Does this site support personal messages? I've looked around the various frames, and followed up with a search, so I'm assuming no. But as my wife will tell you, I "look like a man".
Thanks!

Website Tag Words to increase traffic by easing search?
I spoke with our IT spec at work and described the somewhat difficult task it was trying to find MRH using a Google search if a person is only putting in the normal terms, i.e., "Model Railroad Magazine".
Our techie said that it was painless to have the webmaster add to the "tag" words section of the website.
Could it be so easy?

Linking to manufactures will help to get MRH noticed. . .
One thing I see that we can do to help draw advertisers to MRH is to add links to discussion threads on the forum. It's simple to do.
For example, if you are creating a new thread about the Athearn SW1500 do the following. . .
Advertising Idea. . .
I think one way to wet the appetite of the manufacturers so that they will want to advertise in MRH, is to make their adds in the e-zine quite unique from the printed media version. MRH already has the ability to link to the vendors website. How about using the 3d thing (rotate to see all sides of model) to advertise an engine or any model.
2010: MRR-related New Years Resolution(s)
For me, it's to get re-focused on my layout rebuilding effort.
My attention has been recently diverted by finding ~20 old B&O locos in my Mother-In-Law's crawl space that I stored there in 1999, when I was moving out of my previous house. Now I'm ready to change from modeling CSX and go back to modeling the B&O.

train room safety
This is not specifically train-related, but important for the home surrounding the train room. Within the last three hours, a few blocks away from us, a home went up in flames, with loss of life and people in the hospital. So:
Check your home smoke alarms to see that they are functional and have a fresh battery. If you don't have smoke alarms in the bedrooms and on every floor level, now is the time to get them.
ro ro train transfer elevator for multi level layouts
Anyone ever thought of using or used the ro ro train elevator to transfer between levels on a multilevel layout ?
I would think this has some advantages, such as using minimal space and it can be used as a staging yard.
The problem is that I would want it to be automatic such that it moves to accept train at a certain level when the train approaches, waits for train to drive on then automatically moves to the next level. I would also like traincontroller software to control it automatically.
Don't you guys ever sleep?
It's 20 mnutes to 7AM and I signed and noticed that a number of you seem to have left messages on various topics at about 2:30 AM. Were you waiting up for the guy the red suit so you could share his milk and cookies or did you want to see if the two M & M s and the guy in the red suit were real? So what gives?
I have to go to a presentation at my grandson's school and while I am glad to go, the streets here haven't been cleaned that well and I am not really interested in driving in these conditions. I'd rather be working on my layout.
