Locos and rolling stock

Athearn F unit truck issues

I have a Athearn Genisis F7(MRC sound Decoder that I'll be replacing) and a Athearn Blue Box Kit Locomotive (With Digitrax Decoder) that both have problems with there power pick ups.  They will run for a while a stop.  If you nug the trucks on the side they will usally move.  I have had the Genisis trucks completly taken apart and clean (as well as replaced one truck) twice and have clean the blue box also.  I have clean the wheels and track with no difference in performance in either one.

HO Details West kits

I have a couple of HO Details West kits I’m putting together and the supplied screws to mount the trucks to the frame are too short. The supplied screws are larger than the 2-56 screws I already have for my Accurail and Athearn kits. I was wondering what anyone else was doing with these kits or if you have even had this problem.

Thanks

Old Brass = HO scale SP GS4

Attached are three photos of my brass HO scale SP GS4. I purchased this locomotive from Paul Jansen in around 1969/1970. I may have ran twice on a test track around that time frame. It has never run since, and has been in storeage. The model was made by United Scale Models of Japan. There is no box. Note, the center drivers have no flanges.

My questions is this locomotive worth a restoration? Such as a new can motor, detailing, and painting? Is there a way of determining it's current value? Or is it best just leave it like it is, a museum piece perhaps?

ALCO C-424/425

Hello, I am tring to identify a loco that I picked up at a show/swap meet a few years ago and determines if it is worth installing a decoder. I believe it is an ALCO C-425, but not sure of the manufacturer, Rivarossi, possibly Rocco?
I am attaching photos below. The frame is plastic. The bottom of the weight/fuel tank reads 'Made In Austria'.

Neat Cabeese For SP Transition Era Modelers

I stumbled upon TrainCat quite by accident. They produce a variety of kits in etched brass for both HO and N scale including the SP steel C40-3 caboose, an upcoming kit for a wood C30-1 caboose, C30-4 and C30-6 bay window cabooses.

From the website, it looks like the kits make up into neat models. The website is here: http://www.traincat2.com/

There's other stuff there also. I just got stuck drooling over the sudden opportunity to acquire a greater variety of prototypical SP cabooses.

ATSF 40' Refrigerator Cars

I'm planning on scratchbuilding a couple of ATSF 40' refrigerator cars with Ice bunkers for my layout. I wonder if someone could help me with where to find blueprints and pictures of these.

I also need numbers that the Santa Fe used on these cars.

Sergent Couplers

Awhile back there was some discussion in another thread, (Rotary Dumper) about someone doing an article on Sergent Couplers.  I have been checking  Sergent Couplers out and would be interested in seeing an article.  I was wondering, is somebody putting something together for a future issue?

replacement wheels for HO spectrum diesels

Has anyone ever replaced the stock wheels on Bachmann Spectrum locomotives?

I am just curious if there is a direct replacement or if it requires some real reconstruction work?

old bachman diesel

I have an old N scale F7 Bachman diesel that has the two plastic driveshafts in it. One is broke and gone. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement, or should I just go with my original thought and make a new one from brass???

I really just want to save it and keep it running because it is my very first Nscale engine that I bought. It came with my first N scale train set that I bought more than twenty years ago.

turning down Rivarossi wheels

Okay,

Now the smart hobbyist will just chunk those old Rivarossi steam engines with the absolutley huge flanges in the garbage and  buy something that really runs and probably has sound too.
