HO scale 2 truck Shay

Hi Everyone,

I have been looking for an HO scale 2 truck shay, but find that they can only be had in brass and older roundhouse kits.  Are there more out there that I missed?  And would it be difficult to convert a Bachmann 3 truck shay to a 2 truck?

Thanks,

Jim

DCC conversion - Atlas RS-11 (CV 3611)

With my other project on hold for a few days while I await delivery of drill bits, I had an hour, and decided to install the Train Control Systems A4X drop in decoder into an Atlas RS-11 (Central Vermont 3611) that I've had for a while.

BLI SD9s

Has anyone heard a sample of the new, yet to come out, BLI SD9's w/ sound?  Does it have that throaty, torquey, "I'll pull anything anywhere"  SD9 sound or does it sound like every other diesel on the layout?    Anyone have one (or 5) on order?

Just wondering

Making room in the loco cabinet

I'm making room on my shelf, and getting rid of a loco I don't use. I like this model very much, but I'm not doing the era I was first planning, and don't need it.

I have a Bachmann Spectrum 4-4-0 American, HO Scale (DCC, steel cab and undecorated) up on auction at UP BIds.

Question about an Athearn Cf7

I'm planning to build an "L" shaped switching layout on 2 walls of a spare room based on the Los Angeles Junction Rwy.  I'll be running an Athearn Cf7.  At this point I do not intend to ever run more than one locomotive on this layout, so my plan is to use dc rather than dcc, but that may change.  One frustration that I have with manufacturers is the use of directional headlights.  It is nice for road units that will be mu'd with other units,  but I have never seen an engineer operating a switch engine turn on the headlights when going forward and then tur

Corn Syrup tank cars

Diesel first generation

I occasionally hear the term used first generaton diesel.  I have been around trains a long time but never really understood what distinctions set apart the first generation diesels from second generation and for that matter I wonder what generation we are currently in with diesels.   I could guess but I would be intersted to know any specific information.   Although it really isn't all that important maybe there are others who know or would just like to know.

N-Scale Steam

Hi,

I have recently come to realize that my current track plan for the next layout is not viable because of access problems to a septic pipe. I will have to move the helix. At the same time, I am more and more thinking that I need to be more focused in my design. Currently 2/3 of my design focuses on the CP in Northern Vermont, and 1/2 more or less (overlapping yard..) focuses on the Maine Central. The two parts are integrated operationally.. but I am thinking more and more I want one longer run rather then two shorter ones for my space.

Astoria, Oregon Trolley

This past Friday I took my child bride on a jet boat trip from Portland to Astoria, Oregon for our 38th anniversay.

The roundtrip takes about 10-hours and is well worth the fare of $98 per person (3-hours each way, 4-hours in Astoria).

Upon arriving Astoria we were informed that there was a Trolley that runs along the waterfront (old cannery row). We received free passes to ride into town and back from our boat's tour guide.

Sergent now has Shelf Couplers

For those of you who have been waiting (like me) for Sergent Engineering to come out with shelf-style couplers, the wait is over.

Sergent has just introduced Type E lower shelf and type SE double-shelf couplers. They're also showing a prototype of what appear to be aTightlock coupler (I am not a coupler expert). The E and SE's are currently available only assembled but it sounds like kits are on the way.
