Locos and rolling stock

Atlas HH660

Help me out guys!  My dad worked for the SP from the late 20s up until 1960 when he retired.  He passed on in 1993 at the age of 97.  Yes, I have some long genes.  With a 13 year-old grandson, my dream is to model the SP during the years immediately following WWII -- 1946 through 1948 in and around the Taylor Yards and L.A.

historical photos

I am looking for photos of rolling stock & Diesels from the 1950's thru the early 1960's.  If anyone out there knows a specific web site that would have these & could share it, that would be great!

The road names I am looking for primarily are Northern Pacific, Spokane Portland & Seattle, & Great Northern.  I need some "go bys" for weathering and lettering.

Thanks

Tangent's new release - ACF 70Ton Gondola

http://tangentscalemodels.com/acf70tongondolareplicas.aspx

Swiped off the Modern Freight Car List (not that I think David will mind):

Tangent Scale Models is pleased to announce our stunning 52-6 welded 70-ton drop-end gondola car as produced by ACF, the third all-new model in our HO scale product line. First produced in 1948 for Pennsylvania Railroad as class G31, PRR alone purchased 11,600 welded cars of this body style in the G31/G31A/G31B/

SP bulkhead flats

Hi all, I'm new here as of today, and am enjoying what I'm seeing of this magazine and this forum.  I have no layout, and don't belong to a club, but dabble in scratchbuilding and model collecting.  I enjoy PNW prototype railroading, especially the late, great SP!

I thought I'd share a potential pet project of mine and see if anybody has a reaction to it.  My local branch of the SP served wood products manufacturers, and twenty years ago, 57' bulkhead flats such as these were commonly seen.

Window curtains, drapes and blinds

Does anyone know of an online source for the subject stuff in HO-scale?  I am working on detailing a D & H business car and am coming up on a deadline.  I also need some kind of drawing for a pointed or Gothic arch.  This particular car has small leaded glass inserts above the main windwos.

I tried searching online but all I found was a $40 disk from Evan Designs.  I don't mind paying something but $40 is a bit much.

I know I can make them out of car stock but I don't think my creations would be particulary believable, especially for the blinds.

Bachmann Plus CW40-8

I'm working on a Bachmann CW40-8, and the Handrails look awful. With the hand rails from a Atlas dash 8 fit on a Bachmann locomotive? I know I my have to re drill the holes on the front and rear. Thanks for any help.

"Rescued" car with video

I had picked up what I think was a Tyco Central Vermont 50' Box car at a train show for a few dollars a while back. I'm guessing it was Tyco, from the thick casting, and the truck mounted horn hook couplers.

I little time with a razor saw, some new intermountain wheels, and new sergent couplers, and she seems to run fine.

Getting it on the rails was good, but for a road test, I plugged it onto the test loop with 15 others.

and here's the results!

My Tank Car Models Photo Site

For those of you that like odd tank cars, take a look at my cars. They range from a 2225 gal Bromine car to a 43,800 gal eight axle ethylene glycol RailWhale. All are real cars that I scratch built from drawings with the exception of two. Those are kit bashes. Also at the site you'll find a three axle 11' wheelbase Buckeye truck that I cast for one of my cars. It was not avaliable in any form, and as far as I know it still isn't. Yes, I did two! LOL

Tie loads

I've seen new ties loaded on a bulkhead flat car in a video somewhere, but can't remember how they were stacked on the car, after searching around for photos I've got nowhere.

With a box full of freshly made ties I'm ready to start. Does anyone know how they are stacked? Are center beam cars also used? Any other information would be welcomed.

New Additions - Central Vermont GP9s

Last night before our operating session, I was able to schedule an appointment at the Steam Shack, of Rutland Vermont. He "specializes" in local roads, and had one thing in particular that I wanted - painted, but non-numbered P2K GP-9s.

No comments on the bad lighting! I took these quick as I ran out the door.
