Open doors on Boxcars--21st century
I've seen mention many times that boxcars don't travel with the doors open these days, and for a lot of good reason. Despite hearing that, they do run with oen doors (as of 4 years ago, when I last had a chance to watch freights running there) at times. The railroad track that runs through Dover, NH, and then through Rollinsford en route to Maine <Same route the Downeaster uses> has freights with empty, open door boxcars now and then. Modifying a MTH Berkshire to prototype
This weekend I couldn't pass on an HO MTH Pere Marquette Berkshire 1225 for $125. MTH actually prototyped it from the Nickel Plate Rd 765 so the main issue is it has a horizontally slatted pilot instead of vertical boiler tube pilot the the pilot wheel are roller bearing instead of solid. I am trying to figure on a way to correct these (mainly the pilot) Bachmann and Proto made these engines but I can't find the pilot parts. Cal Scal and precision have castings that are close and I am new/having trouble drawing a 3D image for Shapeways. Any suggest
Order of diesel work (inside/outside)
I'm reviewing the order I'm doing my diesel work in. I have some diesels that are factory painted and will have some additional details added, some weathering, proper couplers, and DCC/Sound/Lights.
Should I get the electrical work out of the way first and then tackle the detail/weathering work? It seems when I have a completed model (like an older one I've done with details/paint/weathering) and then added DCC, some of the details get clobbered and need to be fixed.
I'm wondering if I should get the inside done first and then the outside.
B&O C&O Two Tone E8 Passenger Paint Scheme
I am working on an E8 for either the B&O or C&O (Haven’t decided which yet) but I am trying to find out for the simplified two tone passenger Blue/Gray scheme what color to use for the Gray from the Tru-Color line. Any advice would be greatly appreciated…TYA, Don

Adding Leaves to Weather a Loco
Here is a weathering detail for the folks that model autumn or early winter that I haven't seen anyone try. You can add a few dried and brown leaves on the air intake of your locomotive. Yesterday I caught the BNSF local spotting a gondola in Monroe Wa. on the Scenic Subdivision.

Personally I suspect they are. Wife and I have been going almost non stop for the last month packing, packing and packing some more. Then we moved and have been doing just the opposite. So today we took a break and she went shopping and I went to the hobby shop.
Kato sd40-2 mid production.
I have 2 brand new Kato mid production SD40-2s'. The ditch lights work on analog but not DCC. I have tried 3 brand new TCS DP-5 decoders. All three decoders the motor function works, headlights work but not the ditchlights. Anyone else have this problem?

Styrene banding on strip tank cars. Having some issues?
I have a set of 6 tichy tank cars on my bench.
Im on to the banding that wraps the tank. It is made from 1" x 4" styrene strip. The issues im having is when i glue and apply any pressure to the straps they are snapping. even if the band has set all the way around the tank it is getting cracks in in and flaking off.
I hvae only done this on one car at the moment but im curious if anyone has experienced this with thin styere or could it be something to do with the age?
Im using Zap CA to glue the joints.
