3-D printed motorcar shell
Hello everyone!
I am modeling the Missouri & Arkansas railroad and I would like to have an ACF Motorailer but of course none are available and my scratch building skills are not good enough. I wonder if it would be possible to 3-D print a shell that could fit a existing powered unit. The Bachmann doodlebug is very close dimensionally and this is what I had in mind for the power unit for the shell. Have any of you had any experience with something like this? Is there a 3-D printer out there that you have worked with?
Looking For: Tyco GP20
Hi All:
Looking for either a shell or a junker Tyco GP20. Only things of importance is for the cab/short hood to be undamaged and an undamaged headlight/number board casting to be present.
Watching eBay for a few days has indicated these must be made of gold. There's no way I'm going to spend $35-$45 dollars for get a junk Tyco GP20 on my doorstep. Besides, I'll just to cut the cab/short hood off of it.
Anyway... if you've got such a shell in your junk box, let me know what you want for it and I may be able to take it off your hands!
Thrall All-Door Box Cars
This subject came up recently, and I found this very interesting site discussing these cars, with lots of photos,..
https://atlasrescueforum.proboards.com/thread/7340/talk-thrall-door-cars-links?page=1
I collected a good number of these cars as the more detailed ones from Walthers came out. I'm going to have a number of them, along with centerbeams loading up at my finishing mill on my new layout.
Hauling Lumber - Bulkhead Flats vs Centerbeams
I trying to piece together some cars to serve a building supply distributor. Initially, I thought for my 1995 timeframe that nearly everything that wasn't in a boxcar would arrive via centerbeam flatcar. However, I was reading an old Rail Model Journal article about a building supply distributor and a list of loads from 1988 noted that a lot came via bulkhead flats.
So should I pick up some bulkheads for lumber service inn 1995? If so, is there something specific that would come on a bulkhead?

Athearn SW1500 Motor Removal
I have an HO Athearn RTR (Horizon-era) SW1500 that appears to be afflicted with the common solidified-lubricant issue due to lack of use over the past couple years. The process for cleaning Athearn RTR trucks once they are removed is well-documented, but I'm struggling to find good instructions for actually removing the trucks.
Kadee couplers for Walthers Trinity 5161 covered hopper?
I am trying to convert the couplers on a few of these Walthers models from factory to Kadee. The coupler box is really long and really narrow. Any suggestions on what Kadee ( Not other brands, thanks but no thanks) would fit in these cars?
Aberdeen and Rockfish
Love the A&R and planning my next layout focused on it. Help. I want to paint an F3 in A&R colors. Any idea of a mix for their blue?

Calamity On The KC&G...
So one of the KC&G's GP7's was involved in a pretty nasty derail as a trailing unit, and the short hood and cab were essentially wiped off the face of the earth. (Thank God there were no serious injuries in the incident.)
However, this took out a much needed unit. Not in a position to replace it with a used engine or otherwise, The Casey decided to order a cab kit from EMD and fix it themselves. This The Casey did, and this unit ended up being the only low hood GP7 on the roster.
