Locos and rolling stock

Digitrax SDH166D install

I have a problem connecting the lights on a  NW7 loco but there are three lights, forward, reverse, and a cab light.  Now I know how to connect for forward (white and blue wires) and reverse (yellow ans blue wires) lights but where do I connect the always on separate cab light?

Motorizing a Rotary Snow Plow

This past Saturday I went to the last train show of the season. I didn't think I'd find anything of interest. Fortunately or unfortunately it turned out good. Fortunate because I found something interesting and unfortunate because I just added another project to the list. But I think it will be a quick project for those rainy spring days.

Detailing Steam Locomotive Cab

I have seen many posts on detailing/weathering engines and rolling stock, but have not seen anything on how to detail the interior of a steam locomotive cab.  Here are two pictures of two of my locos.

What sound decoder ??

I have many HO locomotives that have sound,  I am very pleased with Loksound and Soundtrax tsunami but I have many older locos that i do not wish to spend  90-100.00 dollars for sound.  What other sound decoders do you like and why ??

Beat-up Blue-Box Rail Box Blues...

This is my first true boxcar weathering job (as I am a recovering 1/72nd - 1/35th scale Tread-Head (armor modeler for all you Rail folks) and I just had to beat on the Rail Box.

Bachmann DCC Sound S4 Died During Programming - Help?

A couple months ago, I purchased a Bachmann DCC Sound Value S4 to use at my sand pit industry and it ran really well.  Then I repainted it, had some issues with it running, but worked on it and it was running great again.

Weather it with a Grain of Salt! Salt weathering on rolling stock.

Hi all,

Following interest on a previous topic of mine, where I presented an EMD E8m locomotive which had some of its weathering done using the salt weathering process / technique I prepared a "small" post presenting how I am employing this technique.

Coupler conversion of Kato HO Bi-Level cars

Can anyone tell me how to convert the stock Kato HO Bi-Level passenger car couplers to Kadees? I bought the recommended Kadee coupler conversion kit #451 and put it together, but I'm not sure how to install it as a replacement for the Kato swivel coupler. It most likely needs shims, but the bigger problem is that it swivels side to side and I don't see how to correct that. I've attached a couple pictures but am not a great photographer.

Athearn Blue Box WV SCL-Super detail and weathering-less a foot!

I had no idea the cab was a foot to short when I built it several years ago. Anyway, I under cut the roofs with two sizes of razor saws. Installed see through steps and end platforms. I added a sliding compartment and drain pipe. The brake rigging was added along with the correct brake wheel stands I made. The end rails and ladders were added. There are mods done to the bottom edge to make them correct. There are several other bits and pieces added. I weathered it using a photo I had taken in my home town.

Stewart (Kato) F7 questions

Hi all,

I am considering getting my first F7 units (I know its strange that i don't have any yet smiley ). Based on what i have read on their running qualities and long term reliability, i am leaning towards getting Stewart units, either Kato built or later. I would very much appreciate your input on some specific questions i got based on the reading i have done so far.
