Advice on building kits
Hi all, new to the forum. Back at my layout after like a 7 year gap! So relearning or rethinking a lot. Modeling a freelance mountain line in the Allegheny mountain area, the Virginia Western Railway. One question i'd like to pose.
Glue Residue
I started ballasting the track I have laid on my layout. I have been using video guides posted on YouTube and the like. Before I lay the ballast down I have been painting the track to give it a somewhat weathered look, and somehow it actually turned out good. But after the ballast is laid down, glued and dries, the ties get a white residue on them which clearly defeats the purpose of the weathering effect. Any suggestions on how to prevent that? I use the alcohol and then Scenic cement method.
Cheers,

Diorama Fascia Alternatives
Working on a small bridge diorama, I would like to clean up the pink foam sides with a finished look. Are there alternatives to a board fascia? Something I could smooth and level on the face and follow up with paint?

Filling holes in a stone portal
I have a Pre-Size (not Chooch) stone tunnel that I am trying to fix. There are hundreds of holes and I need to fill them up before I make a mold and create four of them. I tried water based products like Durham’s Water Putty and Perfect Plastic Putty and Plaster, but after I sanded it and washed it with a toothbrush and water, most of them obviously washed away. I tried Tamiya Putty, but it dried too fast while applying it to to many holes. My best results were using JB Weld epoxy. It filled the holes, sanded well, and didn’t wash away. I did

Stripping Woodland Scenic's Figures paint...
I purchased a set of Woodland Scenic's firemen with an eye to stripping the paint off them and painting them in the more modern buff colored outfits.
91% Isopropyl Alcohol doesn't appear to much touch this stuff - a bit of the yellow striping is coming off, but the solid black remains quite attached to the figures.
Does anyone know what does work? Thanks!

Spray Booth - DIY Build
I'm starting to think about purchasing a spray booth so I can get started on modelling structures. I want something that is durable, has sufficient CFM, vented outside, downdraft, and large enough for some of the bigger structure work I will do on the railroad. I would like it to be able to handle enamel paints as well as acrylic and still be safe for indoor basement use. I've thought about building one - I think I have the skill to do that - but I'm not sure I have the energy to put into another custom build (on top of other things I'm working on).

Sawmill piping source
I recently purchased the Walther's Saw Mill Out Building kit(HO scale). I am looking for some HO scale piping to attach this to my pending mill construction project. Gotta be a way to get all those chips into trucks and chip cars. Any one have any ideas on where I can get some HO scale piping appropriate for a saw mill?
Thank you in advance for any help.
Printing a Stone Arch Bridge
The Aqueduct Bridge in Georgetown Washington D.C. resides at the entrance of the Georgetown waterfront area and is a must include item on my railroad but how do I build it?
My first thought was to make a mold and cast it in plaster, then hand carve the stones. Ultimately this may have yielded better results but I decided to try and utilize my 3D printer for this project.
