Lumber. storage piles at Cass WV

Ok this is the third topic in my ongoing quest to figure out how to model Cass WV.

In typist case the issue is the stack of lumber in the storage area of the mill,  these stacks stored different lumber from basicly ground level up to about 4’ higher then a standard boxcar,  they were accesses from a raised walkway that ran between the lumber.  So you had something like

Lumber Walk lumber track lumber walk lumber track and so on.

Cass WV Company Store

Ok as noted elsewhere I am starting to build the structures for Cass WV.   This is my fathers section of the layout and I would like for him to see it mostly finished and unfortunately his time is limited due to health issues so I am moving Cass to the top of the build list.

However that is forcing me to address some problems   As such I will be asking a lot of questions in a short order sorry if this is an issue.  But I don’t want to combine different topics as the replies will get lost.

Gator Foamboard for structures

I have a large building even in N scale that I may not be ready to build out fully for several years. For now I would like to make a good place holder that I can add some light details to stand in and allow for operations and also track work can be completed soon.  I am building and industrial building that will have several different roof lines no two walls will be the same.  The building will be 18" wide and roughly 30" long. At its peak 12".

Coal Tower Articles

Hello Everyone and Greetings from South Africa

I was hoping that someone on this forum could help me. I would really like to scratch build the coaling tower described by Eric Stevens in the Oct Nov Dec 1951- Jan 1952 Model Railroader. Unfortunately I only have the November issue and I was wondering if anyone here might be able to share the other articles with me.

Regards

Andrew

Question on spray adhesive

I’ve seen 3M Super 77 mentioned in some of the forums here for spraying trees and landscaping before adding foliage. I was looking online for local stores that carry it and wound up reading some of the reviews. Some recent ones mentioned not to use this since the formula apparently changed and results in the glue remaining tacky or glossy. Has anyone seen this? And what would be a good alternative? I happened to see Elmer’s spray adhesive at a local hardware store so I tried that. It leaves a very shiny metallic finish that looks ridiculous on a couple test trees.

Best way to weather over rustoleum paint?

Hi All,

I am doing a lot of water soluble scenery around a slot care race track. I decided to paint my track a flat primer to give it a "pavement look". I used rustoleum 2x primer. I am looking at the manufacturers safety  data sheet, but can't nail down what the base solvent is in the paint itself. Anyway cleanup is kerosene, xylene, paint thinner etc.

I want to go back and weather the track with a black wash and add skid marks.

1) Can I use lacquer thinner to do this?

HO scale Brick Veneer?

I'm looking for a suitable wood to mimic this brick veneer. They almost seem about 10" square. I'm hoping someone has a similar laser-etched block that could be painted this way.

? Thanks.

simple siding as shown in photo

Does someone know good model materials that will simulate this simple siding and roof. I have looked at the Evergreen site but didn't seem to find something that looked right. Also looking for n-scale screen material.
thank you.
