Scenery and structures

Photo scenic module

Several months ago a friend of mine and I at the Naptown & White River RR Club decided to build a photo scenery module to do photography on.  It started as a 5 foot by 18 inch foam construction on a homemade angle iron frame that I built.  It includes a junction protected by a small tower, a small creek and trestle, a siding to a yard and a siding to a branchline.  Also we added a small 6-8 inch by 2 foot sub module that is removable in one corner that can have small scenes which will change the feel of the scene.  One is finished and is a small MOW area and the

Specific street light style in HO (LA 1960s)?

Dear all,

Before embarking on scratchbuilding these using brass for the lamp post and 3d printed parts for the lamp fixtures, I am looking around for anything RTR/kit or at least a suitable base to kitbash.

The prototype i want to model (in HO scale) is a typical 1960's street light like the the ones seen on Colorado boulevard in Pasadena LA (also seen in various other places across the US).

Panel scriber

I've seen two types of panel scribers: One that looks like a dental tool (curved end) and one that looks like a pen.  Are there any advantages to one type over the other?

Pan Pastels on Trackwork

Two questions;

#1 - I was wondering if anyone uses any type of clearcoat over any pan pastels used to weather trackwork? I am asking as I caught a online discussion about using graphite sticks on the rails and the most voiced concern was motor/electronics contamination by the graphite. I have used the pan pastels to weather track but afterwards I used a vacuum two or three times to remove anything left behind. Just wondering if an addition step in the process was needed.

Thread about ceader shingles ?

Awhile back someone posted about making there own Ceader shingles using Ceader BBQ wrap and brown paper.

I have searched for a couple of hours for it and I cant find it, would anyone have any idea where I may look?

Thanks T.C.

Prototype Oil Loading Platform

I am installing the Walther's Oil Loading Platform, and would like to know what type of ground/soil/gravel do most prototypical operations use?  I'm inclined to guess it would be gravel so that spilled oil/fluids can be drained away and not be pooled up on the ground.

Does anyone have pictures of actual oil facilities?

Thanks......Grampy

Ernie Hoffnagle's Place

Ernie Hoffnagle wasn't sure if it was a rock or a maybe a dinosaur bone in his garden. He called in some experts and now it's all a big mystery.

Sky Color/Paint

With my new color of LEDs I am re-evaluating the sky color in my layout room,...best be done before I start lying track,...and I wanted to paint a few other items under my other deck (the metal beams, etc).

The number of my LEDs has increases so the decks will be a bit more brightly lit,...so I began to think of a 'brighter blue'. I have a couple picked out.

But I have a major question. What 'sheen' does one choose,....flat, semi-gloss, satin etc??

Chopping Tool

Hi, I would like to get a recommendation for a good chopping tool. It would be for wood as well as styrene plastic and something that would not "break" the bank.....!

Cut-A-Way Structure View

Has anyone tried to model a structure on their layout with a cut-a-way or " truncated " view ? How did it work out if you did and any pointers? I tried a search of the MHR sire but didn't get much of a return.
