 Hi

I just got an atlas dash8 and the seller noted that it had a loksound decoder installed by Bradley, No paper work on the decoder so I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this Bradley installer?

Thanks Chet

Wye turnouts for yard - what is equivalent to #6 standard turnout

Grand Junction CO is to be the setting for my main yard on my planned layout and I liked the track configuration found in this photo:

http://www.drgw.net/gallery/v/PhotographersGallery/PGClassic/CConway/Gle...

That appears to require a code 83 3-way, which I have, but it also has a wye in the middle; Peco makes a #4 code 83, which appears possibly smaller.  What why would fit in with #6 minimum turnouts in code 83?

JMRI and Virtual Sound Decoder - step by step instructions

I understand that in JMRI, you can use the Virtual Sound Decoder (From JMRI web site - The Virtual Sound Decoder provides a way for those who do not have sound-equipped locomotives to enjoy throttle-controlled locomotive sounds from their computer speakers).

DCC controllers

Hello Fellow Modelers,

I'm a rather older individual that is NOT as much as I would like, to be, computer wise. I  can do a few things well but I'm lost as far as as the new technology is concerned. ( IE. JMRI  etc.)

Is there not a user friendly DCC system that has just has the basic system covered to make a hobby less complicated and expensive? I do not need to change my locos sound on the main line or listen to coupler clank.

Headlight Responds, but Motor Does Not; a JMRI Operator Error

I just want to share this story in case somebody else runs into the same problem.  It involves a rather common annoyance of trying to select a loco on system, and finding that the headlights and direction toggle respond - but not the motor. I'll put the details in the first reply so the intro doesn't repeatedly use up a large amount of page space...

Voltage on the track in DCC systems and What do you use to power the controls in your system (e.g. turnouts)?

I was considering powering the turnout from the power supplied to a track. I have a DCC controller. I thought this would be DC volts 9 to 12, but the DC volt is 0, while there is AC voltage available on the track. Is this expected?

So, if I have to provide power to the switch controlling the turnout, where would I typically get this from? The DC supply connected to the input of the DCC controller, a separate DC power supply different from what powers the DCC controller or a 9V battery? What are best practices?

Brass Tracked Turnouts in Modern NS Layout

Brass Tracked Turnouts in Modern NS Layout

This may just be a hypothetical concept, but the thought came up today as I explored some of my numerous inventory of turnouts collected over the years. There are a number of nice quality, and like new condition brass turnouts of various varieties in that collection. Are they all destined to the trash heap, or can some of them be utilized??

Searchlight Signal / Switch wiring?

Hi fellow train rats????:)

CTI-electronics - The folks are really nice people

I was able to get my Starter kit set up in about 1 hour. I was able to get an input from a magnetic sensor and control the output using a .tcl program. Really nice and easy.

Also, when I ordered the CTI Starter kit, I also ordered the software. The folks at CTI did not charge for the software as the software is included as part of the CTI starter kit. Really nice folks. Thanks CTI

JMRI and CTI-Electronics.com

- If I have Train Brain from cti-electronics.com, do I need JMRI?

- Can Train Brain be used with JMRI?

- Are they two independent products where one cannot be used with the other?

- If I have the Brain hw modules from CTI, can they be used with JMRI?

- Any pros/cons of using JMRI or Train Brain from CTI?
