Preferred brands for hidden & staging track?

Hello:

I'm fiddling with Anyrail, fantasizing about a greater day with the basement of my dreams. I was wondering what brand/model/etc. of track you all prefer/recommend for hidden trackage? This would include brand/model for mainline track, turnouts (DCC-friendly!), staging, etc.

I'll be using Micro-Engineering, hand-lay, and all kinds of other delicate stuff in plain sight. For the out-of-sight trackage, it just needs to be reliable.

Thanks!

DCC Question - First DCC "System"

Hi all,

I'm looking at the NCE Power Cab 2 Amp DCC Starter Set for my first DCC "System".

I'm looking to control two locomotives with it and one track switch at the moment.

Thoughts?  The price is "nice".

DCC Question - How to control track switch

Hi all,

Not sure if this question should go in the Newbie area or the DCC area.

I decided it was a DCC topic from a Newbie!  Ha, ha!

I have a very small layout.  It is quite simple as it is my very first one.  It has one track switch in the layout.

What is the "item" that is needed in the DCC world to control that track switch?

I believe I will need to purchase one of these "items".

Thank you,

JR

Help with UR92 LEDs - No power to the track

Hi everyone

I have a DCS210 with a UR92 attached. I have switched it on today to find that the red and green leds on the UR92 are on with them both flashing. I have power to the track but cannot control any locos.

Something must have happened but I can't find anything in the documentation that tells me what might be wrong. As far as I can see, nothing has changed from last night when it was working so I am confused. Any help would be appreciated.

PECO electofrog wire

I purchased some Peco Electro-frog Turnouts. I also got a frog juicer. The instructions say I no longer have to isolate the frog, simply use insulated rail joiners. That is neat I guess.

My question is in regards to the wire that comes from the frog. Do I just snip it and replace it with my feeder, or connect it to my feeder wire? Its uninsulated, that is my concern.

Thank you for any help here.

JMRI question

After reading the MRH article this month on programming, I have been trying to get JMRI to work but am having a problem, I have an MRC Prodigy Advance system.

Problem adding a new Digitrax DB210 booster to existing layout....

I have a question/issue with the Digitrax DB210 I recently added to my layout.

My layout already has:

- DCS 100, and two DB150s powered by a Digitrax PS2012 (station #1)
- DB150 powered by Dcc Specialties Magna Force 5amp power supply (station #2)
- DB150 powered by Dcc Specialties Magna Force 5amp power supply (station #3)
- There are 13 Dcc Specialties PSX circuit breaker zones. Each circuit break zone is electrically isolated from the other circuit breaker zones.

DC or DCC?

I have seen some articles comparing DC with DCC.  I am going to be building an N-Scale layout and because operations will be a one-man deal (me!) almost all the time, I am inclined to use DC.  It also helps that I have 2 DC transformers left from earlier layouts.  I also have some DC n-scale locos I "inherited" from a friend.

I would be interested in any thoughts about the pros & cons of DC and DCC for an n-scale layout.

Thanks.

Track Work: Rosin Core Solder vs. Solid Solder

I've read numerous posts here regarding hand-laid turnouts and the use of 60/40 or 63/37 rosin core solder during their construction. There are also debates pro/con about the need for use of flux with a rosin core solder.

That aside, am I correct that a solid core solder could also be used? But, in this case one would definitely HAVE to use flux with it?
