Paint for shelf layout legs?

Hey guys, I ordered some benchwork from an online retailer on here ( Sievers ). I want to paint the legs black. I’m not sure what type of paint to use. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank,

Patrick

Price of lumber

My other hobby is investing and economics, so I've been reading about the high price of lumber and plywood.

Perhaps what I've learned will be useful to some of you. Not that you can't learn it by reading the same stuff, but I suspect having a short summary here will be thought useful by some.

whats quieter 1/2 foam or 1/2 fiber board

I'm considering making a simplified layout using hollow core doors.Lowes sells a black fiber board that have used before on traditional bench work. My previous experience with hollow core doors using foam laminated to the door it seemed to amplify unwanted sound. The product from lowes is IMP Sheath coat. it's made of some kind of fiber with the surface is like a black oil impregnated oil.Yeh it has an smell for about a month. Now my question is, if I use this instead of foam would it be quiter?

Phase II : Ties are in

The tie gangs have finished the main track on Phase II between Birdsboro and Coatesville.  All the main track is tied, plus the sidings and the majority of industry trackage.  There are still a few industry tracks to get planned out, but they aren't essential to start operations.  All the ties have been sanded and restained.

Monday, 4/6, the ballast gangs report for duty and with any luck, later this week rail gangs will start laying rail.

Office Cubicles as freestanding shelf layout

Anyone looked at using used office cube walls and fixtures for a portion of a shelf layout?
If cost in time & materials is reduced over DIY, may be route I need to go.

Would help in negotiations with wife as well!

Any input/Ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Flexible MDF spline sub-roadbed

Looking for information using flexible MDF panels ripped into strips and used for splined sub-roadbed. There was a layout builder who used this technique and I am looking for more info if anyone out there knows more.

This is the only reference photo I managed to save from several years ago. I wish I took better notes and could give the original poster credit for both the technique and the image!

Replacement for Homabed or Cascade

I remember reading about someone who was going come out with homasote roadbed that matched the Homabed/Cascade product.  Any news?

Mealmine Deck

I'm adding a 18" X 80" extension to my shelf layout. I am looking for an easy deck material and have no use for a full sheet of plywood. I can get 2' X 4' plywood panels but also noted melamine shelving in 18" X 8' sizes at half the price of plywood. Has anyone tried this material? It would be on a traditional grid frame of 1 X 3 or if the melamine is a good option I could use wall brackets. Thoughts?

cutting ties and homasote

Several threads and other videos have commented on making your own ties and cutting homasote

I'll add a few things learned from trim carpentry work, adapted to these materials

A feather board is easily made and used to clamp down material to the table saw to reduce chatter, prevent kickback, and generally smooth the operation of ripping. It also acts as a guard for your fingers if placed over the blade.
