Operations Documents

I posted some of this over on another forum so I thought I would share it here too.

Here are some of my documents I have created for my W&N Branch.

The End W&N v2

The last two pieces of W&N version 2 were scrapped out, the remains of the old Coatesville.  The rail, switches, switch mechanisms, and spikes salvaged and 30" of one piece will be recycled as a temporary bridge between the staging yard and the layout.  The rest went in the dumpster.  Long live W&N version 3.

Enough of this actual layout building stuff, I now return you to arguing about the nature of the hobby.

Mortonville

As soon as Op Session #5 was done, it was time to work on Mortonville, the station immediately south of Coatesville.  Originally I had planned to make that area Chadds Ford and include the PRR interchange there, but the only way to configure it would have resulted in a train having to foul Coatesville to work Chadds Ford and that didn't seem a good plan, so I changed the location to Mortonville, the first station south of Coatesville so intruding on Coatesville would at least be logical.

Op Session #5

Hosted fifth operating session last night.  Good time was had by all.  Crew of 4, plus myself and my son ran for about 3 hours on the W&N Branch.

We ran 3 passenger trains, the north local, the Kentmere local, 3 freight trains, a B&O interchange plus the Wilmington, Maryland Ave and DRE Switchers.

Coatesville

Coatesville is a major city at about the midpoint on my layout, home of Lukens Steel Co.

Pigeon Point

At the south end of the Delaware River Extension in Wilmington is the car float apron at Pigeon Point.  The P&R/RDG floated cars across the Delaware River to chemical plants in Carney's Point and Thompson's Point in New Jersey.  To simulate this I have a fold down shelf to hold the car float when it is docked.  I have been putting this off for some time trying to figure out how to build it.  Finally came up with a plan.  The float was made from .040 plastic sheet and will hold six 36 ft cars or eight 30 ft cars.  Construction of the float apron and

The Cut

Now that the Elsmere Bridge is pretty well done, time to move north to the cut between Elsmere and Montchanin.

Dupont Rd at Elsmere Jct

I am just about finished with the highway overpass where Dupont Rd. goes over the B&O near Elsmere Jct.   The B&O  (staging) goes through the backdrop and I needed a way to hide the hole.  Fortuetously, I found that S.

Operating positions on the W&N June 2017

On the 1903 W&N branch operating in June 2017 for OS Omaha I will have 4 positions available.

1.  Wilmington Yardmaster and Shifter

This position based out of the 6th St yard serves as the general yardmaster for the Wilmington Terminal and supervises the yard engines there.  As the yard shifter, the job classifies inbound trains and cuts and builds the outbound trains and cuts.  If required it could do industry or interchange work.

Here is the yard at Wilmington:

There has been a lot of banging down at the Beech St. Shops in Wilmington.
