Don't miss this video!

This video features my 10-year-old grandson, Bobby, who is a card-carrying train nut just like his Grandpa.

Looks nice

Looks nice  - thanks for the short video. I'd like to see a bit more though of how it works differently - I do understand that kind of thing is hard to translate, but that would be my only critique.

Love the Yankee Dabbler loco and caboose - and was that an Exact Rail car in there as well? Will there be a MRH sponsors train set coming out next holiday season?

Cars and whatnot

Scarpia,

Yankee Dabbler sent me (and now the video is published I need to send back) a bunch of locomotives and cars, including cars from ExactRail, Kadee, Bowser, and Walthers (I think that was all of them) as well as a variety of locomotives from several manufacturers.

A couple of the cars were configured with the Ring Engineering EOT signal as well, which is really neat to look at. If I had any unit trains or ones that I new could survive having the same car as the trail car each time... well, I'd be acquiring them instead of sending them back.

EOT

While in no way my era, did you get any shots of that? I'd love to see those as well.

Oh yeah, a MRH sponsor train set does sound kinda cool....

Sound

Jeff & Joe

It is difficult to get a true sense of the sound quality from the video. I was wondering if you could tell me how the RailPro sounds compare with QSI and Soondtraxx DCC controller board sounds in quality and realism?

Thanks

Doug

More Detail on setup and operation

Great video! The RailPro system looks great and certainly appears to be a viable option over DCC. I would like to see additional information on what it entails for setup, ie. layout wiring, including reverse loops, and locomotive installation. (I hope it doesn't need any layout wiring other than what I have already done for my DC layout.) What is needed to control the locomotives and what is installed inside each locomotive to control lights, sound and movement. I know your units were loaned, but who did the installations? Is there a list of locomotives their decoders fit into? Some mrr's have raised the question of the size of the decoders. Thanks for the video and feel free to make more.

Where are the water cars for that Amtrak Train?!?!?

Ummmm, The engineer and conductor forgot to add water cars to that train before departing Roseburg! ;-) Rules are rules!

Water cars are only needed April - Oct

Water cars are only needed April - Oct. We made the video in January, so no water cars needed. (wink)

Looks great but..

If I have $500 BLI brass Q2, am I gonna be required to rip out its qsi sound decoder and replace it with the ring engineering decoder that may not have the great sound qualities as the QSI? Or is the some way to piggy back the ring eng motor decoder and still keep the sound of the QSI? Not to mention some of the Tsunamis I have installed in a couple F3's. This is my only concern. Love the speed matching for consisting and the controller.

Answers here and there..

Sound.... I don't actually have any Tsunami's (I haven't figured out why not yet), but the sound seemed pretty good to me. I am definitely not the right person to ask that question though - I'm not a connoisseur of prime mover sounds and such. I suspect that at the moment the Tsunami, QSI and Loksound decoders offer a bit more flexibility in what you hear - turning fans and dynamics on and off and such, but there is no reason I can see that the RailPro can't incorporate those features in future software releases.

Allegheny, yes, unfortunately you'd have to pull the QSI and replace it with a LM-1. The QSI of course get's it's info from the DCC system, which the RailPro totally ignores, other than to use it for power.

The nice thing, as far as it goes, is that you can still use your DCC system as well. You'd just have to keep track of which locomotive is equipped with which system. Fortunately, with the photo menu on the RailPro, it's easy to scroll through them and if it's not there, fire up a DCC throttle instead.
