Cool. I like the building flat made from bread. Question: Can I substitute wheat bread for the white bread shown? Also, what is the best paint for airbrushing bread?
This is the news - we're adding a video channel. You might have seen Tim Warris post a week or so ago about TrainMastersTV doing a piece on his Bronx Terminal layout.
I can pretty much guarantee the quality will be much better than it was with me either in front of, or behind, the camera at the National Train Show.
Modeling a fictional GWI shortline combining three separate areas into one freelance-ish railroad.
Question: Can I substitute wheat bread for the white bread shown?
I'm sure you can. I have a daughter who is gluten intolerant, as is one of my extra board operators. Substituting gluten-free bread would keep the layout safer for them, and seems one step short of foam-core board as it is. It would probably work great for structures.
Yes, this is the big news. This will not be the MRH staff demoing and commenting on the hobby, but will be more of the hobbyists at large. This is about bringing the best in the hobby to modelers everywhere, not the MRH video show where you mostly just see MRH staff pontificating on something. It's our branded show, certainly, but since its a paid subscription, advertising will be minimal.
That's our approach ... If it's free, expect lots of ads. If it's not free, then very little if any ads.
We want TrainMasters-TV to be broad and deep, and to focus on the modeler and their cool achievements, first and foremost. We want to SHOW you how to do the hobby well.
Also it's worth noting that we are partnering with a professional video producer who has made content for PBS, among other things. This is a total professional production all the way. We believe we have an approach and philosophy for TrainMasters-TV that will make it stand out as a hobby video channel.

I wanna play! I'd open up my layout for video of an op session or other layout construction/ops content. I'm not one for watching much video content, but wouldn't mind being in a quality video product.

Me too if it is still going 10 years from now. Maybe I will be ready by then. You know fast I work.
We just shot 6 hours of video footage of Mike Confalone's Allagash, including 1.5 hours of interview getting inside Mike's approach and delving into his methods of doing the hobby ... What he did right, what he did wrong and his advice to modelers. We also have another 60 minutes of trains running through Mike's awesome scenery, including dolly shots where we run the camera down the aisles pacing the train, for instance. That's just too much video to put in the magazine, so we will be putting it on TrainMasters in advance of the Allagash Bash in the January 2014 issue of MRH.
We can do 5, 10, or even 15-min videos in the mag, but video is huge so we have to keep the magazine video more snippets and sound bites. TrainMasters will have the full video and more.
