Layout design

Ideas for my upcoming layout

Introduction

This autumn I will have a room free for setting up a permanent model railroad. The room is 4 x 5 meters and along with the railroad I also have to make room for a working table and some storage. The space is a bit limited but big enough to make an interesting layout that can provide many hours of fun building and operation.

What brought me to model railroading was the technical aspect of the hobby, but the operational part is getting more and more interesting as times go on.

After the Chain Saw -- Building the Rio Grande Southern in HOn3

For 3 years I planed to build a portion of the D&RGW & the RGS in an area 30ft by 40ft. early this year my new building burned to the ground just before completion (NO RR equipment was lost.)

So until my funds in the stock market are replaced ready Cash in NIL.

Flash I now have changed my whole way of thinking about the RGS. I have an area 26ft X 18ft in the form of 2 rooms and instead of trying to build everything at once I have taken a whole new approach.

The July 2009 issue of Model Railroader features a track plan for the west end of the Maine Central's mountain division. Included prominently in this plan is the paper mill at Gilman Vermont. Since I am including this industry in my design as well, I thought it might be interesting to see what I came up with, too.
