Why can't I put carriage returns / line breaks in my posts?

Short answer: You're most likely using Internet Explorer 10, and you need to enable compatibility mode to get the MRH website post editor to behave properly.

Long answer: You're probably using Internet Explorer 10, and you need to enable compatibility mode to get the MRH editor to behave properly. Here's how:

Enable Internet Explorer 10 Compatibility Mode

Some versions of Internet Explorer may require the browser be set to compatibility mode for the browser to work correctly with all of the MRH post editor's features.  Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 7 or Windows 8 requires that the compatibility mode be set.

Internet Explorer 10

By default Internet Explorer 10 in Windows 8 does not run in compatibility mode.  If the compatibility mode is not enabled, you will not be able to enter carriage returns or line breaks into your posts.

To enable the compatibility mode for Internet Explorer 10, follow these steps:

Windows 7 users start at step 2.

  1. Windows 8 only - From the Windows 8 start screen select the Desktop.

    Win8 startup screen

  2. From the Desktop launch Internet Explorer 10.

    Launch IE10

  3. Press the Alt key on your keyboard to bring up the top menu.

  4. Go to Tools | Compatibility View settings

    Compatibility view settings menu

  5. Either

    • Add model-railroad-hobbyist.com and mrhmag.com to the Compatibility View websites
      or
    • Select Display all websites in Compatibility View

      IE10 Comaptibility view websites setting

  6. NOTE: enabling the compatibility mode using either option will correct the MRH website posting issues.

Click the "torn page" at the top of the screen

There is  a little icon at the top that looks like a torn page.  When you click on it will turn blue and you are good to go
