N&W Pocahontas District: Scenery Phase I

Now that the bench work, track, and electrical wiring are all complete, I'm starting to put in some scenery. I'll post my progress here as I go.

Special thanks to those who have made comments and suggestions on my past posts. Hope you enjoy what's yet to come!

My initial installment with be the first comment on this post...

N&W Pocahontas District: First Mainline Run

Now that the bench work, track work, and wiring are finally completed on my layout, I can finally run some real trains again, instead of just shifting things back and forth. I've been playing around with the car cards and waybills I'll be using for operating sessions in the near future, but thought I'd take a break and make my first video of the completed mainline run.

For those who have been following my posts up to this point, thanks for your comments and encouragement. I hope the wait to this point was worth it.

Pokey Progress: Track Work Finally Completed! Photo Tour

After a couple years of work, I'm glad to announce the track work for my N&W Pocahontas District layout is finally complete! I still have to add ground throws for the turnouts, and wire the new track work (my favorite aspect of the hobby - NOT!) but it sure feels good to get to this point.

Final section of mainline being laid...

The Golden spike is driven! Let the celebration begin!

Car Forwarding on the Pocahontas District

The car forwarding system I've made is nothing new, but I thought I'd show it any way to make sure I haven't missed anything important. If I have please let me know!

I know car cards and pockets can be bought from various places, but I wanted ones that were a little bigger than what I've seen. So I bought a box of those book pockets libraries used to put inside book covers for check out, and use those for my car pockets.

Planning for Operations on the Pocahontas District

I'm getting closer to completing all the track work on my layout currently under construction. So I thought it was high time to iron out the operational details that I've had floating around in my head and get something specific down out paper.

Before I start, here's a track schematic of my layout to help keep things straight during the discussion.

(Edit: Revised the schematic. Hopefully it's easier to read now.)

Design Change - Opinions/Suggestions?

The layout I currently have under construction is a free lanced plan of a fictitious portion of the N&W Pocahontas District. Being a coal hauler located in the Appalachian mountains, you would expect my layout to have a lot of grades, but such is not the case.

Summer Progress

It's been a while since the last update on my layout, so I thought it might be time to update the good readers on MRH as to what's new. I'll place the pictures at the beginning of this post.

Thanks for following along!

Pokey Progress: Upper Deck II

Work continues slowly but surely on the upper deck of my new N&W Pocahontas District layout. Sub-roadbed for the "west" end of the upper deck has been completed. The track plan has been transferred to the layout, and cork roadbed installed.

The photos follow in the next post.

Pokey Progress: Upper Deck

Summer has come and unfortunately work on my layout has slowed down considerably. I'll be posting here every once and a while though, just to keep you up to date on any construction progress that does get done on my upper deck.
