Good to see that Athearn is going to such lengths to provide accurate models for each road and engine number. A very different philosophy from Irv's in the old days when the paint scheme was almost accurate.
Wow! That's over the top! I would've been happy with a SDP45 long hood and frame and adding the aftermarket details to bring it into matching a proto myself. Esp with the GP38-2s where locomotives were different even in the same railroad, between sister locomotives. The other gotcha I noticed as a diesel detailer...this stuff changes throughout a loco's service life. Horns relocated, fans changed out, GPS stuff installed, headlights relocated to the nose. This isn't a criticism in any way to Athearn, just shock as that is a tough thing to research and nail from era to era of a single unit. Sounds like they're definitely raising the bar.
